Tom Hanks- Womanizer?

I am a huge Tom Hanks fan, but him playing a womanizing playboy type is really weird. He does good as usual, am I the only one that thought it was weird? It just seems unnatural considering he is usually Mr. family guy.

An actor occasionally should get outside his comfort zone. That said, Hanks acquitted himself real well in this role. I'm also a huge Tom Hanks fan and have always believed in his having a wide range as an actor.

@thomaswilliamboner I agree, it is weird, because Hanks has the (IMO well-deserved) rep of being Mr. Decent, or "Mr. family guy" in your words. That works in his favor when playing Captain Miller or Forrest Gump, but not when playing this role.

Like you, I'm a fan of Hanks, but unlike PotassiumMan, I don't think that Hanks has a wide range as an actor. But IMO there's nothing wrong with that - find your niche and work it.

Why shouldn't Tom get a little on the side?

It isn't weird for an actor to take a character different from what they usually play. After all that's what acting is.

What was weird though was that he was so lucky with the women. He wasn't rich and he wasn't good looking, so how on earth did he get all those women?

Actually, back in his 1980s screwball comedy days, with films like "Bachelor Party", "Volunteers" and "Nothing In Common", Tom Hanks very much DID play womanizing playboy types.

Anyway, he has the range.

I thought Tom Hanks did great in this role. It made for a very entertaining movie.
