Was the Joker really planning to blow up the two boats?

Because instead of blowing them up he was about to tell a scar story. Was he really planning to blow them up?

reply

I dunno, but we seem to be ending up with a bunch of threads on the exact same topic for some reason.

reply

I know, and the same thing seems to happen in a bunch of other movie boards as well (new movies included).

Talk about Deja Vu.

The joker had no problem blowing up the boats if he had too. The joker fully expected the boats to blow each other up as he assumes all of society is machiavellian at its root. The joker can't comprehend that altruism exists in the world that isn't itself motivated by selfishness. IE the joker wanted at least one boat to blow up but didn't expect that he was going ot be the one to do it. Considering that his plan always involved boats blowing up theirs no reason to assume he wouldn't have done it himself as this was his intention all along. The jokers wanton disregard for human life and lack of empathy (He's a psychopath after all) shows he would have done it himself if need be.

If I remember correctly the scar story was always a prelude to a murder. I don't recall but if he gave the scare story he was planning on murdering someone. The jokers goal in life was to show that there was no pure altruistic people and that everyone is selffish at heart. Thats why he always picked on batman trying to get him to kill him cause if he can show the world that even if batman is a revenge based killer then so is everyone else. The world didn't make sense to joker any other way which seems to be a major contributor his disphoria. Life had no value to joker not even his own so he wanted to die proving this point. Hence his laughter when he thought batman dropped him and his anger/annoyance when batman pulled him back up.

If he was truly committed, the bombs would have been on dual timers that required each other, so blowing up one before the deadline (pun intended) would prevent the timer on the other to trigger.

reply

They portrayed him as having no conscious. He would have had no problem detonating the bombs..

reply

Honestly I always thought it was a trick and whoever would have used the detonator would have blown theirs up rather than the other one. That said I'm sure Joker would blow up both.
