Exactly how did she manage to screw up after getting the car started?
She has the keys, the car is running, she’s safely inside the car, and there is an open field out there. Why didn’t she just take her time and drive normally in the direction they came? Instead, she seemed to press her foot down on the pedal and started driving recklessly in any direction.

I think the lion pelts have degraded badly due to poor storage. I can't swear to that though. They were described as being abnormally large and maneless. The theory was that the lions were either sick or injured in someway preventing them from killing their usual prey and thus attacking slower potential food ie the villagers. Prey is a loose adaptation and I stress loose. As far as what caused the jeep crash...I don't really remember.

That, my friend, is a very good point. The filmmakers were probably just trying to cash in. I'm also sure there was a lot of "creative license" at play as well.
