One of the most underwhelming Oscar Wins?

I think Tilda Swinton's performance is one of the most underwhelming Oscar Wins, i wouldve been surprised if she was Oscar nominated, but WON is even crazier... She definitely deserves an oscar because she is a great actress, but not for this film, because IMO she wasnt that good, very underwhelming and mediocre

On the contrary she made what could've been a standard villainess into a remarkably human one. Swinton made you feel her characters insecurity and anxiety under pressure. A very subtle and nuanced performance, much like the film it graces. I think the recognition was for making a fairly common role (the icy corporate shark) into someone fathomable and fallible.

Yeah i agree, but that is thanks to writers, in the way they wrote her character, not her performance. I thought she was good for what she needed to do, but nothing oscar worthy

Calib, I took a look at the other nominees that year and I certainly think she outshone them all and created something completely original and quite fascinating. The other performances were things I've seen before, good performances but nothing new.

Yes she did something different than other actors that were nominated that year, but that isnt a reason to give her the win straight away, i thought all of them were superior except Ruby Dee, who shouldntve been nominated

2008 was a bad year for the Oscars.

Looks like I'm the only one that agrees with you ---

I didn't care for how she handled the role --- Others could have done better
