Can we stop trashing Kids Movies

Ok. I just have one quick thing to vent. I think we (myself included) over analyze movies sometimes, especially kids films. Just about every single kid theme movie gets like a 1-3 out of 10 on this site and critics trash the mess out of them as well. I think it is important to know what target audience fims of this caliber are targeted towards. If our kids, someone else's kids or heck any kids enjoy the movie then mission is accomplished. I seriously doubt when producers, directors, writers, actors, etc. take these roles looking to win Oscars or anything. These movies are not for us so lets stop hating so much!! I hate even looking at threads when it comes to children's films because I automatically know it will be trashed. And if anyone goes into these movies actually looking for an A+ film then please lower your standards (haha). Just remember when we were young we saw some movies that we absolutely loved as children that I'm sure our parents truly hated.

I'm with you, I really liked to see the lion king when I was a kid but it's not that I would pic out the tape today and watch it because i'm to old to watch that kind of stuff.
I'm sure everyone enjoyed the Scream trilogy as well as Saw but my perents hate it because it's to much blood in it.

That's the same with us not like kidsmovies because it's to childish.

I saw this film because Cuba Gooding Jr was in it and I can tell that he can really be funny sometimes.

If your kid likes this movie, he should be banned from the cinema until he's old enough to bloody vote. Seek urgent counselling to reverse any trauma that may have occurred from having viewed this "film".

One example for you amongst many: Toy Story.

Just because it's targeted at kids was no excuse at all for Daddy Day Camp to be so inept. Stop automatically assuming that kids are so stupid they will put up with anything. The earlier you credit them with some actual intelligence, the more likely it is that they will grow up to be accomplished adults.

Then don't look.

... and equally there are some movies that stand up just as well from my childhood to my adulthood today.

It's made from bits of real panther, so you know it's good...

I think it's AOK to trash a childrens' movie, especially if it's like this particular one...tepid and idiotic. There have been truly great offerings in family films (thanks Pixar! thanks Dreamworks! and even thanks Harry Potter!) - crap like this is just that...crap. I let my 8 year old daughter watch this junk on cable & even she thought it was horrid!

Make us.

This kind of mindset is exactly what the studio execs are cashing in on. "It's just a kids' movie, it's not like we have to TRY or anything!" Movies like this are just trying to make a quick buck. Would you compare it to, say, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang? That was made in 1968 and still holds up today. This blob of processed Hollywood goo was practically forgotten a week after it came out.

If our kids, someone else's kids or heck any kids enjoy the movie then mission is accomplished.

Using that logic, we can no longer critique anything, no matter how stupid or repulsive, as there will always be someone somewhere to say, "hey, I liked it!"

The thing is this, media FOR kids isn't made BY kids. That includes books, movies, music... anything.

It can still appeal to the mind of a child but at the same time not be completely *beep* out. Let's see, what kind of sidekick should we give Dora the explorer. How about a monkey? Wow, nobody's ever tried that before, very original.
