this show's love triangle vs Friends

I think Ted, Robin, and Barney are a much better, believable, and more interesting love triangle than Rachel, Ross, and Joey. I think the main reason being that the seeds of this one were planted and acted on much earlier. In both shows, Barney and Joey are shown hitting on the lady, but very casually. But they have Barney actually *like* Robin in the earlier seasons, and Joey falls for Rachel much later. Plus, Robin and Barney had chemistry and were together a while, whereas Joey and Rachel got very little pay-off, they dated for like three episodes before breaking it off, because they, like the audience, just felt too awkward.

100% agreed. Luckily the writers of Friends immediately understood it was a bad idea

Friends was always very safe and cutesy for me. Barney really is a sleazy skirt chaser whereas Joey is more like a playful puppy who wants to be patted. And yes as OP mentions Barney was always into Robin whereas Joey and Rachel were just (pardon pun) friends who figured they would give it a shot.

reply

Yes but you stopped to early.
Joey and Rachel got very little pay-off, they dated for like three episodes before breaking it off, because they, like the audience, just felt too awkward....
...so kudos to Friends for NOT pushing this awful idea.
and continuing
HIMYM jumps the shark by going waaaaay too far with it, ruining both characters (Barney the marrying man????gtfo! And Robin in love with that sleazy dude???gtfo! +Ted the cuck).
So fuck HIMYM and its triangle.

reply

I think it is more of which is worse. Neither Barney and Joey were that believable as love interests, but they were the only ones in the cast romantically available.
