How I Met Your Father

It seems there's some talk of a pseudo-spin-off in the works, being written by a couple of people involved with This is Us.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/met-mother-dad-spinoff-works-225737361.html

It's not a traditional spin-off, in that it would strictly be using the format of a central character, in this case a woman, telling her children how she met their father. This is also unrelated to the failed pilot for How I Met Your Dad, but Carter and Craig would have some involvement, though the extent is unknown at this time.

What I kind of find funny about this, is that I've just gotten into This is Us, and I find that it's more or less what I originally thought How I Met Your Mother was about. For the longest time I thought HIMYM was a campy, formulaic sitcom; about a man in the present telling his kids - Ted, Lilly and Barney - about how he met their mother, with that part of the story being told in flashbacks, paired with present day stories. And until I finally watched the show, I couldn't figure out how the identity of the mother was somehow being kept a mystery in that scenario.
And now, This is Us uses a very similar framing device to that mistaken concept; showing both the present day lives of this family, combined with flashbacks to when they were growing up, and there's a bit of a mystery about the father's fate.

Some aspect of that actually kind of inspires some interest in this new project; and I would actually be willing to give it a chance, even after Carter and Craig screwed up the original...

My only Gripe with this show is...
Carter Bays and Craig Thomas are the executive producers...

If CBS dropped these two guys...
I may just watch this show.
The question remains is two 2.5 years enough for the fans to "Forgive" these two?

It depends how involved they are. If they're not on the writing staff, and the EP credit is strictly out of deference to them pioneering the narrative format, then I'm more inclined to give it a chance. The fact that they don't seem to be the one proactively developing this new take, combined with writers from This is Us being the ones who are, make me a little more receptive. Mind you, with the This is Us writers, I have no clue how involved they are in that show, to know credit they deserve for any possible success for this new show, but it's certainly piqued my interest.

I was never mad at them enough to need to forgive them, myself. To this day I still have a lot of respect for them, even though the finale could have been a lot better (I understand their point, but I also understand that in the final scene it translates badly). All of the good points of the show beforehand is more than enough of an "apology" for me.

The Hit That Wasn't: In a world of really bad pilots and hopes and prayers some new television show will be a hit, there was a network (CBS) that had a surefire one. It was a spin off of a very popular long running comedy ("How I Met Your Mother") on that network. The original had a huge cavalcade of stars. The spin off ("How I Met Your Dad"/2013) had this alliterate A- list actress/director/multiple Oscar nominee (Greta Gerwig) who was really only an actress at that point. The pilot was a huge hit. The show was going to be a huge hit. It was a guaranteed money maker. So, why was the show never made? Our actress wouldn't sleep with the head of the network (Les Moonves/1995 to 2018). He took it personally and wouldn't give the show a series order. Greta Gerwig/"How I Met Your Dad"/CBS/Les Moonves
