Dear Any Human Being Who Rated This a 10. WHY?

The title.

Presumably they're all dummy accounts created by will.i.am.

Only thing that makes any damn sense.

That answer seems like the only plausible one.

Alot of people still enjoyed this film even with all its problems.

reply

Because I really enjoyed it. I don't rate for flaws, but for the overall enjoyment.

As we speak I'm watching my own version of a X-Men Marathon in yhe order below:

X-Men: Wolverine
X-Men: The Wolverine
X-Men: First Class
X-Men
X-Men: X2
X-Men: The Last Stand

reply

your order is *beep* up should be

X-Men
X2
Origins
The Last Stand
The Wolverine
First Class
Days of Futures Past
Apocalypse

Those that are not out obviously can't be watched but you get the point

reply

X-Men: First Class(although plotholes arise no matter if you see XFC before or after XOW)
X-Men: Wolverine
X-Men
X-Men: X2
X-Men: The Last Stand
X-Men: The Wolverine (since it continues on from the last X-Men, not Pheonix being dead and logan still mourning for her)

either way, the Origin/First Class/Wolverine have plot holes between them, but also plot holes for the 3 X-Men films themself, some can be explained, like sabertooth becoming more animal like losing some memories/being more feral and thats why he has subtle connection to wolverine in the X-Men movie. I.E stealing his dog tags etc. but does not fully remember him.

end of wolverine origins Professor Xavier is seen standing to rescue the kids, but end of X-Men First Class a young Xavier is seen getting turned into a cripple.

The wolverine it shows him in Japan when the nuke was dropped, Hiroshima, But in wolverine origin he served in europe, at that time both were WW2 and it's a known fact that no one could of possibly served in both wars, also in The Wolverine, Sabre-tooth(Viktor) was not present, but in the same timeline of origins Viktor and Logan were inseparable.

also Emma frost in Origins is younger then Emma frost in First Class, also in FC she joins magneto, but in origins she escapes Strykers lab to go to Xaviers school, dont quote me on this but im sure you don't see her in either Magnetos group or the school in either X-Men, but she could of grown up like cyclops but left to do her own thing, also to note she could of grown up and abandoned magneto but she was fair aged in FC in her late 20's/early 30's.

Best X-Men movie.

3rd best Marvel movie behind Avengers and Iron Man.

I gave Origins an 8. Not the best movie in the series but not the worst either. I found it a pretty fun movie and easy to watch. The acting is pretty good, with Danny Huston, Liev Schreiber and Hugh Jackman all giving great performances. The only problem (besides Deadpool) with this movie is the tone, it's a little too goofy. That said, if this movie came out before all the other X-Men films I think people would have liked it a lot more. The series had just established an aesthetic and Origins strayed pretty far from it

reply

Even an 8 is too high.

reply

What'd you reckon it's worth?

reply

5 at best.

reply

4.0/10 is the only reasonable rating for this POS in my book.

Good action. Good performances. Good story. Good effects. I enjoyed it and would watch again and again if I chose to. It made no attempt to be a piece of art. It made no attempt to be the greatest movie of all time. It's purpose was to entertain and be a worthy prequel to the main series. It succeeded in what it set out to do and so I give it a 10.

You know I'm really getting tired of people using the old "it made no attempt to be a piece of art...It's purpose was to entertain, etc." to defend movies like this. Die Hard wasn't trying to win an Oscar for Best Picture, neither did The Killer, Hard Boiled, Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Lethal Weapon, A Better Tomorrow, Taken, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Air Force One, Casino Royale, Speed, The Rock, Top Gun, Iron Man, or The Avengers yet they're all far more action packed, entertaining, and competently made than this movie.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is just rubbish from beginning to end, the story is beyond stupid, the dialogue is painful, and it's total character assassination for so many X-Men characters. The acting isn't even that good either, neither is the action for that matter.

None of the problems you listed were problems for me. And my argument is quite sound. We knew what to expect from this movie based on all of the other films. That's what we got. It wasn't better, it wasn't worse. It did what it set out to do. It was just another sequel of the same quality. Nothing great.

Are some films better received than others? Sure. Cherry-picking gets you nowhere, bub. I'm sure you can find many Oscar movies that you don't think deserved the award.

Even compared to the other X-Men movies this one is still terrible, even compared to The Last Stand it's still pretty bad.

I hope to God X-Men: Days of Future Past ignores the crap out of this micromanaged disaster of a film, little good can come from trying to make this as canon as possible with any of the other films.

AMEN! I couldn't take this movie seriously even if I tried, it's just too much of a travesty. I mean Kevin Durand's fat suit in itself is enough to discredit the whole thing! Looks like he popped straight out of an Austin Powers movie! What about Will.i.am who has got the acting skills of a table at best...The characters were all very poorly written and so naturally most roles and actors were underwhelming, especially Gambit and Deadpool. This movie almost killed any future for both these characters by wasting their potential on such bland roles!

But the worst (because they're what we see the most) were those awful CG adamantium claws! How did they manage to make them look so much worse than they did 9 years earlier in X1... with twice the budget and not nearly as many actors to pay? That's quite an accomplishment.

The love story also made no sense, neither did the establishing of Wolverine's iconic jacket from the trilogy, which he leaves behind at the end of the movie, with amnesia... good job guys ( if that doesn't show lazy work I don't know what does). And that horrible orange and teal color correction, the weird correction of skin textures and the overall poor CG, not to mention a very forgettable score... I could keep going, this movie is plain awful and whoever doesn't acknowledge that fact should seriously reconsider their very low standards!

It was meant to tease the idea that Wolverine would meet up with Gambit again. They would have had to invent a reason for why Gambit would opt to not tell Wolverine about what happened, but that was the supposed plan before they dropped the idea of doing a direct sequel to this movie.

reply

Oh ok, I didn't know that, but are spectators expected to search for these backstage details as they watch the movie? Shouldn't such hints be established better? I mean by the end it's like "I'll find my own way" and each of them leaves on a different path... not the best sequel setup. And that sequel plot you're talking about doesn't sound like it would cover a 2h movie. I mean it's not like Gambit and Wolverine were childhood buds, they barely knew each other for a day, we'd have Gambit give Logan the Jacket and both them fight some random villain from the X-men franchise? Another bad CG fest that would end exactly like this one did, with each of them going his own way? Not to mention Taylor Kitch's Gambit was as bland as his role in Battleship, so I'm glad they did not do another of these stinkers. They probably couldn't since this movie barely made its big wasted budget...

*shrugs* I was here discussing the movie when it came out and I along with others were pointing out that it might have been a hint that they would meet up again when people brought this up as a goof before one of the behind the scenes people came out and said the same thing. So, personally, I don't see it as particularly difficult to figure out on one's own.

Nevertheless, the plan was not for those who didn't get the hint to have to search for behind the scenes information. The plan was for them to be confused by it for a couple of years or so and then see for themselves how Wolverine got the jacket back. It only became something some people have to search for because Origins was poorly received and, as a result, they dropped plans for direct sequels to the movie.

We don't know exactly what they had in mind. All we know is that they were thinking that the two characters would meet up again down the line. For how long and what purpose was never said. I'm not even sure they knew. They may just have thought that it would've been a good idea and thought that they'd figure out how to make it happen later on.

They probably couldn't since this movie barely made its big wasted budget...

It actually made money for the studio. High 300 millions is what a movie with this type of budget needs to warrant sequel, which is what it got and why it (like "Batman Begins, the first Captain America, [second if you count the 1990 film] and the Star Trek reboot) was able to get another movie featuring the character. The decision to not do a direct sequel (aka to not continue the narrative) was solely because of the audience reaction to the film.

All the X-men films are terrible and aimed at people who have never read a comic. Films for simple people with no brain power.
