They actually all discuss it on the DVD: Shirley jones indicated because she'd been typecast as Carol Brady and wanted to be in an edgy R rated movie. Doris Roberts liked her character and felt it would be a nice way to do things with her "marie barone" character that she couldnt get away with on TV (remember Raymond just ended at the time of the show).

Possibly because they read the script, thought it was funny and wanted to be a part of it. Their characters were some of my favourites in the film especially the horny one, she reminded me of Daisy Adare.

Never underestimate the power of the almighty dollar in Hollywood. I think it's admirable that at least some filmmakers are still casting Shirleys Jones and Knight, plus Doris Roberts, but I wish it were better filmmakers than this.

Perhaps because they wanted to have some fun. And this movie is FUN! I love it and watch it frequently when I want to just escape the world and have some laughs. I mean, just the scene where Dante is talking to the news reporter about the lion is hilarious. And the whole thing in the vegan restaurant with David Spade ("Guy Blow"!)... and Linda Cardellini sexy dancing while singing Karaoke! Allen Covert just comes across as a really nice guy and you can't help rooting for him. JP is a total whack boy "How can he see me?" or "Great outfit JP, how much do clothes cost in the matrix?") Oh man, I love this movie. It's an awesome slacker funfest. I wish being a game tester really was that much fun, but alas, when I did it at THQ it was nothing like that. No Linda Cardellini either.

Agreed. I'm not typically a fan of comedies like this that are crude, dumb, and rely on dick jokes, but Grandmas Boy is an exception. Not every part makes me laugh like it used to, but I still crack up watching it. The addition of classic actresses, especially Shirley Jones as Grace, just makes it better. You can tell they had fun making it and it's great to turn your brain off and laugh.
So instead of forgetting about the whole affair you took time out of your, obviously, busy social calendar to come to a movie forum and call it dumb without pointing out WHAT makes it dumb.
