If you're not familiar with what the Bechdel test is, take a few minutes to go read up then come back ;)
Given the protagonist and story of this movie, I think it would be kind of cool if they went to a sort of extreme and did the opposite. Ie, if they have few male characters, who don't interact. I know that's unlikely, and frankly, it shouldn't happen "just because" if it's bad for the story, but I think it'd be cool and could work here.
The Bechdel Test is an interesting exercise but it does not convey whether or not a story is actually good or female positive for that matter. For instance, apparently the first Alien film doesn't pass the test, but very few people would say that the movie isn't a feminist movie as the main hero is a woman who avoids stereotypes.
shareVery interesting point. I was discussing pretty much the same thing earlier this week with a friend regarding Rogue One. Sometimes it seems like producers think that overusing one female character makes up for the fact that she's pretty much the only (prominent) female character and are just like "Close enough."
shareIronically, the reason Alien is a feminist movie is simply because the character was written as a male character, then changed to female without any change to the script. So yeah, a lot more movies would be feminist if only they treated female characters just like any character.

shareUnfortunately the movie pretty much has so few female characters that it's still barely passing the Bechdel test itself. And with all the male characters and WW just standing around looking "stunning", the anti-Bechdel would seem quite impossible.
shareSince most of the movie took place on the frontlines of WWI, it makes sense there would be few female characters. It's like when some people complain about the lack of diversity in this movie. It takes place in Europe in 1917. It's going to look pretty white.
