What exactly was Warner Bros strategy releasing Shazam! between Captain Marvel and Endgame?

It boggles my mind why they thought this release date was going to work out for them. Smells like cockiness from's WB part, thinking they could cut into Captain Marvels leg and take away hype from Endgame. The problem is that it has unfortunately backfired for them and severely made it under-perform in the box office compared to even Ant-Man.

When should Warner Bros have actually scheduled this film?

With the Christmas background it might have fit in better during the holiday season although I guess the competition would have been just as tough.

I think that would've definitely fit in way better considering the family element also!

i agree

This movie was scheduled to be released on April 5, 2019 well before Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame were scheduled for their respective dates.

Maybe they felt they couldn't compete with either and this was their safe bet?

both movies have obliterated Shazam..

it brings to mind when Star Trek Nemesis was released between Harry Potter, LOTR and Bond lol

i don't think the release date was shazam's problem.
it came out a month after cm, & three weeks before endgame.
wide release movies generally make most of their revenue in the first two weeks after their debut. some films have stronger legs, some less so. but putting shazam, a not particularly well known property, in that spot doesn't seem reckless to me. that was enough time for cm to cool off, & enough time for shazam to make whatever it was going to make before endgame took over the movie world.

i liked shazam, & it certain got decent reviews, and it's hardly a financial disaster, but no doubt it didn't quite catch on with audiences the way warners might have hoped. but i don't think that can be laid at the feet of timing.
