Yeah, its not going to be a "phenomenal hit", its going to do OK, but unfortunately, whilst the concept is unique for a superhero movie, the movie struggles as to what it wants to be.

Theres not enough comedy for that to be the focus, and theres probably a bit too much seriousness for a movie that really skews a younger audience.

Saw it today with my son, both agreed that it wasn't anywhere near as funny as the advertising suggests.

It wasn't a terrible movie, but its not going to hit the heights of Aquaman (having a much smaller budget is a bonus), and it has too much competition in the next weeks for it to really flourish.

Unfortunately, the majority of the laughs were had in the trailers, where most of the funny material was.

Just surprised that it didn't have more laughs in it bearing in mind the tone the adverts set out.

instead you intentionally exaggerated and tried to claim Because your theater enjoyed it, It means every theater enjoyed the humor....

the weird thing is...You dont even need to do this....Shazam's consensus is bulletproof....Its considered great...

You dont need to get so upset because some people didnt find it funny...

every single theater and showing didnt find it as funny as yours....You dont need to get so emotional and try to exaggerate and say "Nope My Theater Laughed a lot, that means Its funny and you are wrong"

all it means is ....YOUR THEATER enjoyed it and thought it was funny....It proves nothing else....

I wasn't aware that "Aquaman" was an exemplary superhero flick (or are you just talking about box office success?). Sure, it's entertaining, but there's not enough meat on the bones and it comes across too manufactured. For every five minute lull where some depth could've been built upon, there's a wild action sequence. It's as if the creators lacked the confidence to take their time and tell an interesting story with interesting characters and covered the hollowness up with a blast of superficial thrills every five minutes.

I thought Aquaman was OK, but anyone thinking that Shazam! is going to hit the same heights are in for a shock.

And yes I was referring to box office, for those that think this is some kind of renaissance for DC, i'm sure Shazam! will do well, but its not going to be as big as some are hoping for.

Yeah, I liked "Aquaman." It was flashy and kinetic; it just needed more depth to hook the viewer and make you come back for more. As it is, there's nothing "more" to come back to, except maybe Mera, lol.

It was okay with Thor 3 because the first two were serious, plus "Ragnarok" balanced out the humorous parts with quality serious drama. Some parts are even moving, like The Executioner's story arc, whilst some are profound (e.g. Odin's revelation about Asgard). And Hulk has more dialogue than all his other cinematic appearances combined (!). As for the humor, much of it is laugh-out-loud funny. While I prefer the more serious approach, I have to admit that Thor 3 is the most all-around entertaining of the three.

"Watchmen" is my all-time favorite superhero flick but I found "Ragnarok" all-around entertaining with a nice mix of depth and lightness, drama and humor (as noted). But I agree that filmmakers can go overboard with the goofiness and ruin the movie.

I pretty much agree with that. I felt like it relied too much on tropes instead of injecting real humor into it. Too much of it was kids being stereotypical kids with stereotypical personalities. Most of them were good actors which helps me ignore the stereotypes. But this movie was all on Levi's and Strong's shoulders who both did a decent job (more so for Strong) carrying it.

I kinda wish they traded more of the kid/school moments for more moments with Levi and Strong. Make it more of an action movie with kids added in instead of the kids/school movie we got with superhero stuff and edgy villainy thrown in.

I think this title should be "Yet Another Phenomenal Movie For DC!"

Theres no arguing Shazam is considered a great movie(I have not seen it yet) but The facts are clear...People love this movie and it has the stats and consensus that you can confidently say "Its a Phenomenal movie"

as for being a HIT though?

I mean ya maybe...Its going to make a profit

but I dont think anyone is jumping for joy at a 53 Million OW

I mean hell one of the biggest DC fans here, Queen..Predicted a 75 Million + OW and then raised it to Near 100 Million +

the facts are, Its not a good look that DC couldnt even match Marvel Weakest franchise.character and movie in AM1

when you consider the success Marvel Studios had with Debuting Characters(Many Of which were LESS KNOWN that Shazam) in GOTG,Ant-Man,Doctor Strange,Black Panther and Captain Marvel....there was no reason why Shazam couldnt have similar success.

Shazam had EVERYTHING going for it, Great reviews, coming off a Great success in Aquaman...and It simply couldnt even match Marvels weakest Movie and Character in AM1.

Its becoming clear while DC is certainly on the right track and having success, DC just isnt going to be able to have The success Marvel Studios has...

This is a perfect example of that..

DC knocks it out the park with The ULTIMATE Female A List Superhero in WW...Literally has everything go right, Great reviews, Huge Womens movement get behind the film...The movie is a huge hit........lol then comes Marvel Studios with a C list Female Superhero in CM, gets decent reviews, is a decent movie and KILLS WW in every way...showing DC just cant Have "MCU type success" even when They get Everything PERFECT...

Now we get Shazam, DC Nails it, Great Reviews, Great Movie....Yet DC's debuting characters doesnt get close to Marvel Studios debuting characters...

so...Yes Shazam absolutely is a Phenomenal movie......

but I think its clear by this thread you made...You know Its kn ow its not really a "Phenomenal hit"....

I think You've seen the box office results...You know its coming in Low or at least not what you were expecting and You intentionally exaggerated and made the title "Hit" instead of "Movie"...

I mean your entire thread is talking ONLY about the quality of the movie....I have no clue why You wouldnt just say "Phenomenal Movie" in the title...nothing in your thread even remotely talks about The success or box office....Its clear you were only Giving your opinion on the quality of the movie....It seems quite SAD and shameful that you then decided to exaggerate in the title and declare the movie a "Phenomenal hit" instead of a "Phenomenal movie"...again this shows you clearly were feeling underwhelmed by its box office and wanted to exaggerate by calling it a "Phenomenal hit"

The Pure Anger and Emotion in the post is quite stunning...

I was a regular on The IMDB boards for 6 years before coming here...I've seen all types of Trolls/DC fans...

I'm in no way saying you are near the worst I've seen....But I am certain YOU are the most Angry...

I've never seen a DC fan Literally RAGE with pure Anger,Hatred and Jealousy the way you do....

and whats more telling is there is always a clear "Ignition Point"....every now and then you pop in here and just Explode with Angry,Jealous, Hate fueled replies...

but if you go back in look, every single time Its easy to find what caused you to Explode...and every time its either Me or another Poster reminding you of Marvels Dominance over DC...

The anger,Jealousy and Frustration you've clearly built up the last decade watching Marvel Succeed on a unprecedented scale and then Watching DC fail at the same time has clearly drove you to this...

You do realise that Captain Marvel is currently at $374million domestically and Wonder Woman is at $412million?

Whilst its true that Captain Marvel is unlikely to beat Wonder Woman domestically, its probably going to get within $10million of it by the time it leaves the Box Office.

Lets not be shy here, whilst I liked Wonder Woman and am looking forward to WW80, Wonder Woman is TOP TIER A+ DC Character, versus Captain Marvel...... 3rd tier if its lucky, D-?..... and yet it will wind up nearly beating Wonder Woman domestically as well.

You really need to lay off the "LOLOLOLOL", salient points like above seem to constantly slip you by.

The "LOLOLOLOLOL" is directed at bill Brown who said Captain Marvel was "guaranteed to beat Wonder Woman" on CM's opening weekend then deleted it once he saw it immediately fall below WW's weekday numbers.

And as you see from his above post from today...he STILL says CM "beat WW IN EVERY WAY".

Uhhh...no...it didn't beat it domestically. A list...C list...or D list...doesnt matter...the fact is it did not and will not match or beat WW's domestic gross.

You seem to be avoiding the point, Captain Marvel will get within $10million of Wonder Womans domestic total.

Captain "C list" Marvel will get within $10million of Wonder "A++ list" Woman.

Sure, Wonder Woman beats Captain Marvel in this one area, but its a symbolic victory only.

In fact, depending how Captain Marvel holds up, it may well still beat Wonder Woman domestically, those that held out from seeing it might well decide before the month is over to finally go see it, or if enough showings for Engame are sold out, it'll get the fallback.

Either way, its going to be a lot closer than even you realise.

Yes...I understand the oft-repeated "unknown C list" aspect of Captain Marvel but that really isn't a huge factor in this particular case.

She is the person that Nick Fury pages during the end-credit scene of Infinity War(the highest-grossing CBM of all time) and. Is known by virtually everybody to be the most critical player in the upcoming Endgame. They almost connected this movie/origin story to Endgame by releasing it less than 2 months apart.

In fact, because of these boosting benefits, sites like Box office. com had originally predicted a domestic total for Captain Marvel in the 550 million range.

I saw Shazam yesterday and loved it. It's just a true comicbook superhero movie, with respect to the source material and characters. I had expected this to be good but it was even better than I originally hoped. Mark Strong was really convincing as the evil Doctor Savanah, possibly his best villain portrayal yet. Levi and Grazer were a great duo as Billy Batson/Shazam and Freddie Freeman. I would rank this near the top of the DC movies I've seen in my lifetime, putting it up there with the first Donner Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman Begins.

Go see for yourselves. It's just plain FUN!
