This really does aim itself right at families. I was expecting something with a bit more irreverence but this is sort of like the Ant-Man of the DC movie universe. It's kinda funny and sweet but I think I was expecting just a little bit more.

Are you sure you’re talking about a DCEU movie?!? Lol, jk. DC & WB have clearly been changing things, and it’s been for the better!
Shazam is an awesome fun time. It’s been called Big meets Superman, and that’s pretty much accurate. While it isn’t one of the most eventful or really that smart and unique comic book movies (yes, it gives off some of the same vibes as other lightearted and comical superhero movies from a certain studios/brand - I ain’t complaining!), it is one of the most delightful and endearing. A real blast from start to finish. Was it underwhelming to me in any way? Not exactly. I mean, this was an appropriately smaller scale film, so the low stakes didn’t necessarily bother me (btw, the anti-Captain Marvel nonsense is ugh.) And though it may not be without one or two issues, at the end of the day I have no major gripes.
All in all, it’s a funny, well-crafted, and heartfelt movie. It may honestly be my favorite from DC since the last Nolan Batman film. On a side note, I do agree with the Ant-Man comparison but Spider-Man also came to mind while viewing it —holy crap did the end credits have Homecoming written all over them! (Again, not a complaint.)
And good, they are learning from Marvel. Hell the first set of credits with the graphics were very reminiscent of SP: Homecoming and Deadpool (Not MCU but still).
It's a shame that the DCEU is finally finding its groove but now dont have their Iron Man or Captain America~
