shareSee it if you get a chance
The points of view are what the film was about for me
It's worth a look, and make up your own mind
I felt sad at the end of this movie,
and any movie that makes me feel anything is a good movie
********************* very mild spoiler *************************
The ending was a little "hollywood"
The movie was so down because of the subject matter
that a lil up at the end was OK by me

Jennifer Lopez did an excellent performance, I think you should watch this film because it's a good one!
shareI have a suspicion that some of the negative comments may be for political reasons. It shows up US Republican policy re. GATT for being, in reality, abuse of poor people. So many Republican supporters will certainly slag it off. It's a great film with an important story to tell. Gripping - well directed, and well worth a view.
David.
there has overfloded with j-lo movies on tv this week, alright, but this i have never seen before, really looking forward to see it. sounds pretty good to me too, (gonna check it out tonight hopefully), 90% of this board is like disscussions about the release dates and promotions of this movie, i was very suprised to see this was gonna air on tv now, couse i thought it had just come out on dvd, and would take a year or something before it came on tv.
a guy said, alote of things are going wrong,
but i don't mind at all,
and i'll tell you why, with help of the words to this song,
i love to complain,
i love to see a summer day go wasted in the rain,
i love it when things go wrong,
and i hope everybody will diss this song,
becouse then i can feel sorry for myself,
i can cry and complain, and blame the whole human race,
maybe you think i'm nuts, maybe you don't understand,
you see... i'm the possitive-negative man.
I just left the theater in Buenos Aires, where it was released last weekend. I found the movie to be well shot, well directed, well written, and well performed. The story itself does lag a little bit, and I too did miss the fact that they explained the electricity shortage in the opening parts, so I was confused by the fire scene. All in all, I forgot it was J-Lo, and just sat back and enjoyed the depiction of what "free trade" really means. Enjoy your computers and big screen tvs before something gets done, and they become domestically produced for a much higher price.
Amsterdam is like Six Flags for the soul.......
meh. its ok.
i got to the end and didnt feel id wasted my time watching it, because its informative, has a decent enough script, a very good plot, and some ok performances.
but to be honest, it was like watching a really good (and star-studded) one-off tv drama than a 'proper' film - it just felt a bit like a straight to video movie throughout.
thats just my opinion though, and i can see why other people might like it a lot.
I didnt like this movie, in the least, but it may be more because my disdain for ms lopez is much greater than my enthusiasm with Mr Banderas's thespian artistry. Something tells me he had to manage some heavy drinking being on the set with lopez's always over-the-top entourage and bad-behavior.
If you live in the area then you know about this grievous situation, about the pain felt for those families and friends involved, but the message is just another, for Americans, amongst many already spoken every night (and morning) during the local news. I'm afraid to say this story is 'just' another very tragic story about so many. And I think this kind of travesty happens in every major city of the states; the epidemic of a bunch of citizens (women, girls, young kids, etc) going missing and likely killed for stretches of time and no one, regardless of the power, money or smarts involved, can do anything about it.
It's a good thing the majority of citizens dont believe in UFO Aliens, otherwise they would get the blame. For now the blame goes to a mass of pervs headed by the proverbial BoogieMan.
For now I like the other movie about this subject, "The Virgin of Juarez", even though the quasi-mystical angle makes a good topic into a silly vehicle by which to tell an upsetting story.
ms. lopez, the person & her sophomoric acting, is just too revolting to look at, for me; regardless the tale ("based on real events") being told.

I loved it! I like to think of myself as a rather socially conscious person, but had no idea this was going on. This film opened my eyes to yet another travesty our government and big business turn their backs to. visit www.amnestyusa.org for more info.
shareI'm not sure how you can truely 'like' a film that is based on murder and rape. As far as films are made, it is a well-made film. The script seems well-written. I think everyone should see the film because the subject matter is so important to be aware of.

I saw this film today and believe it's horrible. It looks like a straight to video film (no wonder it didn't get a theatrical release), the dialogue is as poor as it is unbelievable. the plot is filled with holes, terrible editing, scoring, acting. Maybe it was a good idea, the whole story about the women murdered in Juarez is interesting but here it ends up as a bad serial killer thriller. Don't waste your time on this!
Mauricio, I agree with you completely. I was very disappointed.
RIP Sydney Pollack
i was annoyed that such a profound subject was given this treatment. perhaps in attempting a wider appeal, the screenplay, directing, and cinematography were gratingly formulaic. i have never seen a movie that made me so conscious of the choices made by the director, photographer and editor, and hell even the actors. i watched the movie in a general state of annoyance. it was based on actual events, yet so many scenes seem unbelievable or even impossible. SPOILER: a couple of examples: when diaz is shot. how is a shooter in a moving car going to fire through a window and hit him in the stomach as he's sitting down at his desk? the trajectory and angle is impossible. maybe by this time i was so pissed at the film's attempts to manipulate me that i became overly critical. also, the action sequences were superfluous. in the hotel, the girl is terrified by the creepy guy, sees or imagine she sees him open the door, screams, and runs out into the street. which is all of a sudden the red light district, next door to the hotel i guess. adrian hears the scream from the next room, yet when she runs in there the girl is completely gone and is nowhere in the hall running away. she must be really fast. same thing happened when adrian first saw the girl and her mother at the newspaper. suspense was created for the sake of creating suspense.
i recognized nafta for what it was and protested against it in 94 before it was ratified. only corporate interests could drive something so big. and the only law of corporations is the bottom line.
i am pleased that this film was made and exposed a situation unknown to most people. wish they hadn't felt like they needed to entertain me. i do recognize that the film's heart was in the right place. in the context of the horror forced upon one human by another, my opinions about this movie are meaningless.
