Beware Beatles fans!

They turned every song into a love song I don't mean lyric-ly (obviously), but instrumentally. They all focused solely on the vocals with minimal support from the rest of the band... cause, you know, that's what the beatles were all about.

Any TRUE fan of the beatles (their good stuff anyway...) would have to agree that they butchered their songs right?... right!?? ANSWER ME DAMN ITTT!! ARRRAGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!

...anyway, the stupid freakin sap story didn't really keep my attention either so I stopped watching halfway. I'm gonna go ahead and label this a chick flick.

lol I just realized my title reads as if ONE should be wary of rabid beatles fans. Look out Steve, there's one behind you! AHHGGGG!

Do you label every movie that you do not like a "chick flick"?

No. But I do have a criteria. And this movie filled it.

I'm a Beatles fan, yes, a TRUE Beatles fan, and I like this film. This is a story told via the Beatles songbook, not a Beatles concert.

Did you enjoy this movie as a stand alone product or as a tribute to the Beatles? Because I can't think of how this movie contained any of the spirit of Beatles. I could be wrong here since I haven't watched the entire movie.

I guess what I'm asking is if the songs they sang/played weren't Beatles songs, would it have made a difference to the movie? (Aside from plot I suppose).

reply

I wasn't so put-off by the handling of the music as I was by the less-than-insightful story and characters. It was my own fault, though. I somehow went in expecting a deeper musical history lesson, and ended up with a cartoon that had a can of "TIME LIFE presents THE 60s!" paint dumped on it. Oh well, I can guarantee that if the film had been what I hoped for, it wouldn't even have made half of its budget back.

Yes, for me it would have made a difference. I don't think I would have been as drawn in, or would have loved it as much if it hadn't been Beatles music. I have such an emotional connection to these songs, they are so moving and powerful, no matter who sings them, that went a long way toward how much I was pulled into what was going on in the movie. I found myself doing the same thing with I Am Sam. I cried during that movie, and not so much because of what was happening, but because beautiful covers of Beatles songs were in the background.

Well stated. I agree.

Actors do not have a job...they have a blast!

This movie is an abomination on every level.

I'm a die hard Beatles fan, have been all my life, and I LOVED this movie. I'll agree, the story wasn't anything really all that new, in fact a lot of plot points were taken from the miniseries The 60's that came out a few years ago, but Jim Sturgess and Evan R. Woods had so much chemistry, I loved the love story. No, if you're looking at a hard, gritty look at the 60s, this isn't that movie. It is a love story. I see a lot of movies and a lot of rom-coms and most of them leave me cold and unaffected, but once in a while, a movie comes along that just has a texture, a feeling, a heart, that just hits me, and this was one of those movies.

Don't count me in your "chick flick" assessment. I am a chick and from everything I have read this movie, while the actors try hard, is simply awful.

Let's just say that God doesn't believe in me.

Look at what has become of Paul......
Actually scratch that
It was a nice film to sit back and watch. Some songs weren't all that boring, some were rockin' :P
