Who is the Better Singer - Jim or Joe?

In my opinion, it is Joe Anderson (Max) - he has a very nice clarity to his voice and hits his notes dead on, while Jim feels like he is glissing and sliding into a lot of his lyrics...maybe they are just singing at different registers or in different keys, but that's what my music-loving ears pick up

What are your thoughts?

It could be a number of things that make them different. Talent for one just in general I mean they are both good singers but obviously there are comparisons or you wouldn't ask. Secondly Joe may sound crisper because he has to sing in an American accent which would be easier than Jim trying to sing the songs with a Liverpool accent, a lot of English people sing with an American accent for some odd reason so Joe may have had an easier time. I would say Jim but just because he sings more and is the main protagonist and I love the character of Jude.

Hehe, you need to clean your ears out then. If you watch the behind the scenes on the DVD, there are alot of scenes where they are practicing their songs and Jim clearly has a beautiful voice capable of hitting high pitches. Not saying that Joe is awful but I think that its Jim's accent that does it for me.
But that is why they have two people that are sort of opposites in voice, so one person likes one and someone else likes the other. They are both amazing and I thought that Evan Rachel Wood's voice was beautiful. They all had amazing voices and I cant get enough of this movie.

Joe Anderson shows his technical power on "Happiness is a warm gun" which is very challenging to sing.

Jim Sturgess has a much more expressive style of singing.

I like both, but prefer the singing of Jim. It is nice to hear some of the Beatles songs sung with his accent.

In the behind-the-scene, Joe was having trouble hitting the high note. He later said this:

My favorite song was 'Happiness is a Warm Gun.' I could not hit that end note for the life of me, and it was actually Bono, who was obviously in the film, standing there telling me how to scream a note basically, and sort of standing next to him screaming like a lunatic I ended up getting it.

He has great teacher.
I love that song too. I love the rawness of his singing. Jim sings much more smoothly, a bit too polished for my liking. So I prefer Joe.

Joe. He's got a roughness about it that I absolutely love. But Jim has a beautiful voice too.

Jim is actually not that good live but I like his voice. Joe's however is excellent.

Anne Francis stars in Forbidden Planet..

I don't disagree with you, but you should check out this video out of Jim, Evan, Dana, and Martin Luther performing All You Need is Love on Oprah. He's great, and this whole video is great. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lifDi84EE84&list=LLufbA9QnQMoRiSE2p-8TPbg

Hmm...my thoughts? Well....Jim sings just like he acts. I would tell you about that but IMDB will turn most of my words into ****'s! Sorry! lol

I like Joe Cocker so much! I'm partial to him, here and everywhere!

They were both great, but I thought Jim was better.

Actors do not have a job...they have a blast!

Jim is a wonderful (and professional) singer. Joe does fine for the song(s) he's given. But he had to be semi-trained before doing the role, since he can't sing.

For the "Happiness is a Warm Gun" song, he said he could only hit the notes by shouting and screaming instead of singing.

So if you think the two voices are comparable, that says something about your ability to recognize a good singing voice.

reply

Obviously Jim. They used some autotune on Joe's voice- it made it very tinny, almost like a door chime.

reply

Jim has a more lyrical way to sing, while Joe's more bluesy. Since I like both genres, I cannot choose. They're both good singers.
