The stabbing at the lake was the most memorable scene

It's probably the most chilling scene in the movie in my opinion.

When he was walking up and then hid behind the tree also.Must of been horrible for the couple.

For some reason I can see a movie like Saw that has a lot of guts and gore than this scene and not care about the characters dying… THIS scene however, makes me care about the characters. Her scream as the Zodiac almost always gave me chills. That's powerful filmmaking.

You're just a little boy in a playsuit, crying for mommy and daddy!

The right thing to do would have been to run the moment he brandished his gun. Two moving targets, one guy with only around 7-8 shots(assuming he had no extra ammo on him), their chances would have been pretty decent. You never, NEVER let yourself get tied up or kidnapped. If they shoot you when you run, chances are they were going to shoot you anyway.

"We're not supposed to talk about it."

Yeah the stabbing by the lake is one of the most disturbing murders I've ever seen in a flick. The way the scene is shot in a very plain-view style with the victims in complete shock and torment is very effective.

reply

Yes =(! Very effective and great scene of film making. Super creepy and annoying feeling!! One of the best scenes in this movie and one of the best murder scenes of all time.

The craziest part was when he just started STABBING at them like a mofo! UGH! Don't do that you crazy man, they done nothing wrong!

reply

I thought the scene was very well done too. Only one thing about it bothers me. The male victim who gets tied up then says, very calmly and almost mockingly to Zodiac "you know, just because people are going to ask....was that thing even loaded?" referring to the gun in Zodiac's hand. That was so unrealistic to me. Why would anyone, in that situation say that? You don't want to say anything to antagonize the killer, you just want him gone. So why, after you are tied up and it looks like the killer is going to leave would you welcome more conversation?

It just seemed so dumb and like that would never happen. Unless the movie showed it because the victim in real life actually said that. Then, okay.

I guess he thought that this guy who had hog tied him and his girl up was about to leave. He wanted to know the gravity of the situation and he thought it was safe enough to do so. He was also a little peed off that perhaps he hadn't done more to stop what had transpired and knew that it was going to be difficult to remedy the situation and that it would soon be getting dark/cold.

He also probably thought to his self that they were over the worst of it and that the Zodiac was about to leave. What harm would trying to find out if this guy that had up to this point robbed and humiliated them bot even have a gun? Male bravado.

Exactly. It looked like he was about to leave so why welcome more conversation and make him stay even longer. Not something I would have done but oh well. Just something that bothered me but I still enjoyed the scene.

reply

He wasn't about to leave.

He didn't want the car or their money. He was going to kill them all along.

reply

But the couple didn't know that. That's my point. We as the viewer know that but the couple didn't. They had every reason to believe he was going to leave. He asks for their car keys and ties them up. Then the idiot guy invites more conversation and in doing so makes the guy stay longer. Just unrealistic to me. Almost like he was joking about it "because people are going to ask if it is real"

reply

The male victim survived the attack. Everything in the film is an accurate recreation of the attack based on his telling. He really did ask to see if the gun was loaded.

reply

Probably felt like he was buddies with him since he thought he wasn't going to be killed. Probably felt relief, and wanted to make conversation. It bothered me too, but I'm not much of a talker.

reply

I totally agree. When I saw it it was almost hard to watch. One of the most realistic stabbing scenes on film. David Fincher done a great job, his best film in my mind. The rest of the film had an amazing creepy and scary tone, especially the basement scene and the scene with the mother and her baby child in the car. "Before I kill, i'm going to throw your baby out the window."

reply

Yeah I wish that scene with the girl and her baby was longer.

My favourite scene was definitely during the intro, when the Zodiac shoots Darlene and Michael. The fact that Donovan was playing made that scene so badass!

When you see Blue Velvet and Bobby Vinton crooning during the intros and exits, you never quite hear that song the same way after seeing the movie.

Same with The Hurdy Gurdy Man. Great song, and great scene put to that music. I never hear it the same as I did when I was a kid in the 60's now.

Swing away, Merrill....Merrill, swing away...

I just could not sit through that scene! I only tuned in shortly before the scene and had to click to see something else. Caught it again towards the end and came here to see if I should give the entire movie a chance .. ??

reply

Yeah its really good, worth a watch.

If you save the world, We can do it in the *beep*

reply

Thank you. It really is not my kind of film but I will keep an eye on a rerun on TV.

reply

Looking back though...

A car jacker isn't putting that much effort into his costume. You know your doomed when his turning up dressed like THAT.

reply

But if you're not going to leave any surviving witnesses especially in a secluded area, why do you need to hide your identity? I think he just wanted to scare them before murdering them.
