The stabbing at the lake was the most memorable scene

It's probably the most chilling scene in the movie in my opinion.

Agreed. Horrible.

It was so realistically sickening. It's like it reminded you of how deeply disturbed Zodiac really was.

reply

It was, it shows that you don't need gore to create an effective murder scene. The first murder scene was really disturbing too.

I watched a heavily edited version of this movie on TV a few nights ago and it really reduced the impact of the movie. I was disappointed because the stabbing and shooting scenes weren't gory or stylised; they were necessary to explain why the public was so fearful of and fascinated by the Zodiac killer. I'm glad I saw the full version on DVD when it came out.

That stabbing scene was like watching a real murder. Great job not using 15 different cameras and corny music.

reply

I have to mute and turn away when I watch the film again during that scene...

reply

I agree. I've watched hundreds of horror movies but none of them made me as uncomfortable as that scene does. I think part of it is the lack of music, just the screaming, grunting and stabbing sounds...very chilling. There are times when music can be beneficial in creating mood and tension and times, when used incorrectly, that it can ruin everything. Thank God the creators had the good sense to know the difference.

That scene bothered me because it's such a hopeless scenario; you can't really argue that the smart thing to do when confronted with a man like that is to try and comply the best that you can, given that you have no way of knowing that he's not just going to rob you and leave. It would be rash to try and escape only to force him to hurt you when all he might have truly wanted was your car, and where would you go anyway? Even when the woman can see that she's going to be stabbed next, really her only option would have been to roll or jump down the hill into the water, and then the only way she's not going to drown is if by some miracle she actually manages to get her hands free, which is unlikely.

If it were me, I can't say I'd have handled it any differently than they did. They were pretty much cornered.

This scene made me realize that if I were being held at gunpoint and I had given the assailant my keys and wallet and he still was threatening I would assume that he was going to kill me. At that point, the odds are better to run. Hitting a moving target is not easy. If you are with a woman, she needs to run also. If the assailant didn't intend to kill you, he probably won't shoot when you run. A sane criminal knows that there would be no advantage to killing you, only making the crime much more severe and putting more cops on your tail. The cops don't put a lot of time into tracking down armed robbers.

I have a severe fear of knives and that scene was traumatic for me, I think about it years later and just shudder!

It would have been memorable even if it was just a picnic and no one died. The location, the beautiful tress ,sunny light and the lake stand out.

This scene was effective without being too explicit. All in all, Fincher did a great job.

Being stabbed like that would be the worst way to go, that and an animal attack. You have got to be really demented to do that to someone. Watching someone stab your lover and knowing you will be next and you can't do anything to help or stop it is so horrifying.

I hope this comment doesn't raise red flags about me, but that stabbing scene is my favorite scene in any movie.

Not because I like seeing people be stabbed, but because for once I see a movie that did it the most realistic without going over the top with girlie fake screams.

Honestly I thought the screams were genuine during the filming.

Just happy a movie did a stabbing scene with cold hard chills without bullcrap we see today.

Hey it's my favorite scene too, don't feel bad.
