Why does Prince kill himself if he is completely innocent?
Maybe it was the times, but would you kill yourself if you were completely innocent of a crime?????

Someone else in this long thread probably said this already, but here goes again...
First off, he is not completely innocent: he has been plotting against his father, which is what the inspector passed on. He knows he is about to be arrested for treason.
Secondly, he does not KNOW he is indeed innocent of the murder: in the montage of scenes which represent the inspector's internal summing up of his revelation, one scene shows the a hand spreading blood on the blade of the prince's sword as he lay passed out in the barn. He would have awoken to a missing woman, and a bloody sword in his hand.
I agree. He didn't kill himself because of Sophie - I think he figured out at the end that it was a setup. He killed himself because his father knew he was planning to overthrow him.
He wouldn't have spent a day in prison for killing Sophie, but his father might very well execute him (or just lock him away) for treason.
