This or the Prestige?
For me it's the prestige. What are your thoughts?
shareOMG, the prestige is far superior, no contest.
shareI like both, but i prefer "The Prestige"
Prostitute: What the *beep* are you doing?
Johnny: I'm gonna kill a bunch of people.

While this is not a bad film, The Prestige is way better. The latter film had some kind of point or message - for example, about what people devoted to their professions (or obsessed with success in them) are capable of doing. By contrast, I don't think The Illusionist had any point to make. Eisenheim’s motive appeared to be just getting the girl, and in doing so he framed an innocent man for murder – though the Crown Prince might have been a deplorable character on other grounds.
shareThe Prestige wins hands own. no contest.
I've seen the prestige a few times and the illusianst once. I couldn't imagine sitting down to watch it again. waste of time.
They're both excellent.And they're very different.I liked them both.A lot.
Boom.
I bet you're confused huh...it's ok.
Never go full retard.
Both are entertaining films but there's something ultimately unsatisfying about both. The Prestige has the edge for me because of its layered storyline. The scifi ending, however, seems at odds with the overall tone of the film. No doubt illusionists are great inventors/engineers in their own right but there's a part of me that thinks the scifi explanation is a bit of a cop out.
The Illusionist, it seems to me is a rather more straightforward film. It pays lip service to conjuring but that's just window dressing. It gives the impression that its a film about magic when it's really a romance disguised as a "sting" movie. It reminds me of a gem of a science fiction film called Cypher, which overall was done better. As much as I like Norton, he doesn't quite have Northam's acting chops.

The Illusionist. Not because it's less flawed or that it has better twists or that is has more actors I like, quite the contrary, I dislike Edward Norton. But what does it for me, and why I rewatch The Illusionist and don't rewatch The Prestige, is because I just don't like the characters in The Prestige.
For the Illusionist I want them to win to get their happy ending. For The Presitge, almost everyone is a jerk in one way or another, especially the two main leads played by Jackman and Bale. They both do repugnant, cruel, selfish things. I couldn't like them and if I don't like them why would I care what happens to them and therefore the outcome of the movie?
I liked Prestige but liked the story a lot better in The Illusionist. So my vote goes to The Illusionist.
