Film Ending Discussion *SPOILERS*

At the end of the film, what do you think is on the back of the piece of paper? Do you think Brooke ends up back with her husband or do she and Nick reunite?

^^ so true. good thing I read this thread before renting this, since they didn't get together at the end. good luck with the cheating husband, shes dumb

reply

no one said she goes back to the cheating husband. it's an open-ended movie.
if you think she's found someone better in Nick, she'll be with Nick. if you think that she needs to make amends with her husband, she'll go back to him. it doesn't make her dumb.

My 18-year-old daughter & her friend watched the movie tonight on DVD and were confused about the ending of the movie where the woman's eyes changed to a freaky color! Does anyone know anything about this scene? Thanks!

She goes home to confront her husband, as Nick suggested. She packs her things and she meets up with Nick at the address on the back of the car.

ebeowulf-1: Alice's smile at the end is a smile of hope for the future and we all know that is not with a chronic cheating spouse.

Obviously the beauty of an ending like this is the viewer gets to fill in the blanks. I agree with the comment above. The whole movie was based on "hope" of some kind. Hope to catch a ride to Boston, hope to obtain money, hope to ignite an old romance, hope for a job, and etc. Not all there hopes were realized but they worked through each circumstance and were honest with each other about their feelings. For me I don't see Alice returning to a cheating husband as a mission of hope, more of obligation and desire to have things as she thought they once were. Of course they never will be what they once were, as Nick's desire to re-connect with his ex prove. I think the letter, probably in just a few words, conveyed hope for a new future, with him as friend or perhaps more.

It doesn't matter what it said. Judging by the smile on her face I'd hope it's an open-ended suggestion to meet back at the hotel room in a year's time. Just like Lost In Translation. Sometimes we have the most incredibly passionate experiences which last only 24/48 hours but that's all it's meant to be. For the record, I loved this film! Maybe even more than Lost in Translation.... which I might watch in a bit :)
