I'm Thai ... and want to share some opinion about SHUTTER

First ... My English language is not good ... But I'm Thai and love "SHUTTER" ... when i read other topics i'd like to share some ... mmmm -*-
Some sentence may make you feel confuse ... please try to understand ^ ^"
(I'm so please if you edit it for correct)

And may be "SPOILEDDD!!!"

1. Why ... Asian Ghost Movies Must "long black haired girl ghost"
Some Thai (And I think other asian too) believes that ...
Nature give a man have a stronger body
And give a woman have a stronger mind (Including to mind of revenge)
when a woman was die there's only soul and mind ... they are so powerful than a man ... so ghost asian movies use a theme of girl ghost
... (However long hair can be some option of a ghost effect that make it more scary)

2. Why ... monk can see Natre on Tun's Neck?
In the movie that boy is not monk. he is "Nain" ... it's a Pre-Monk
And Some Thai believes that a children has a pure mind. Pure level will be decrease when they grow up. so some children can see a ghost.
But some person that have a third eye or have a mind practice can still see unbelievable thing though they've grown up
When Nain+Children = very very pure mind ... easier to see.

3. Compare to Ju-On, Ringu, 2 Sisters
in my opinion Shutter not appropriate to compare with Ju-On,Ringu and 2 sisters

Ghost from Ju-On and Ringu is not base on a real asian ghost(may be only Japanese ghost be like that - -")
in Thai the ghost can't kill people directly ... in Ju-On Kayako Kill people by herself with touching such as hanging by her hair and force people by her hand .. then people was disappear from the world(and go to Kayako'Land? *0*)
i think kayako turn herself to a powerful Devil or a Monster far away from "GHOST"
Thai Believe is ... Real Ghost Kill People by make them frighten, scare and panic with sudden appearing or illusion. Can't Kill Directly.
When People Feel much more scare They mind become to disfunction and lack of mind concentration. And do something without an awareness such as run away across the road and die with car crash, Car driving accident.
In Shutter Natre make people gets Mad and jump of the window. run away and fall from the ladder ... it's not like Natre pull the people to the window and kick them out.

about 2 sisters ... i think 2 sister is so dramatic and psychic. movie theme is not a ghost haunt.

The other horror movies that i think it's a ghost movie is "THE EYE" in my opinion it's based on a real ghost.
In Hollywood movie i think ghost from "WHAT'S LIES BENEATH" is based on a real ghost too.
If you say that ghost from Shutter is not different from Ju-On and Ringu. I think it's not true. and Can't discuss who is Original. (May be Because you are not an Asian or may be i wrong)

--------------------------------
However my No.1 horror movie is Ju-On ... (not ghost Movie)
I like the way Kayako kill people
When the law was set completely!!!(go in to her area(house)) ...
you can't run away from your destiny ...
nobody can stop her ...
her will GETS YOU!!
SO CRAZZZZYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!! and her can twist her joint everywhere. very very COOL!!!
Kayako is a superstar of a horror movie!!

(i think i ought to bomb her house from the outside before i have get in)

hey im thai too.
shutter is by far the best asian ghost movie i've seen.

reply

I am Thai too!!!! Nah just kidding!!!! I am Chinese! :P I've seen some very *beep* Chinese horror movies, I sure hope we make a decent one soon :(

reply

I'm french and I loved Shutter, this is one of the best long dirty black haired girl ghost movie, with the original japanese the grudge and one missed call.

So don' t worry, some people are able to understand movies and the culture of the country it is from.

Your opinion is great, but I want to ask you something: Have you seen " art of the devil" and It's sequel?

reply

Im mexican and "Shutter" along with "Alone" are some of the best examples of asian horror.

reply

I'm mexican too. I have saw this film twice in the movie theaters and since then I have seen it five more times on DVD. Whenever someone is bluffing about a "great" horror film, I always mention Shutter. It's truly a masterpiece, the best of asian horror by far... and I'm a huge fan of the genre.

reply

I hated that movie

Concerning the "usual" appearance (long hair and so on), take a look at this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yurei (sorry, I don't know how to make it clickable!)

That's only about japanese ghosts in particular, but nevertheless it's interesting!

PS: You're right...Shutter is the best! I'm proud owner of so many Asian Horror films, so I know what I'm talking about :)

reply

Man, i couldn't watch it!*! I really love asian horror movies and this is one of the best. Even the trailer scares me off...

reply

river..thank you a lot for this information. I was enlightented! thank you very much !

great film. absolutely terrifying. and I agree with what you said about how Thai belief is how ghosts kill people "psychologically" by making people kill themselves because they become disillusioned and out of touch with reality

reply

Hell, just as long as it is better than Nang Nak...

reply

i had the misfortune of seeing that movie too. *shudders*

anyway, back to the topic. To the topic starter, thanks for all great information!

We have the same thing here in the Philippines, I think it's common w/in Asian cultures. In my country, the women are the one's who take care of the family, who make all the sacrifices & they're expected to be stronger of will, mind & spirit than men, so it makes sense that if these are expected characteristics of women, if some tragic incident befalls her that ends up taking her life, she, rather than guys, would have the power to exact revenge or etc. Also, women here, suffer more so than the men, so they're the one's who have something to seek vengeance or restitution for.

We call these women White Lady/ies - they're pale, with long dark hair, & their faces are often hidden from view. You definitely don't want to see their faces.

I an gay and like this movie.

I'm Thai too, and I loved the film how it is already and see there's no reason the idiots at hollywood will have to remake this movie. If this movie was given a huge budget in marketing it would be huge, maybe even as huge as The Exorcist even though the acting and casting would not be as pictureque and top class as The Exorcist... but good story adds up :)

reply

hi. im thai too and im trans..nah kiddin

loved Shutter but took a while to understand ur writing...lol

1. long hair is, as u said, for effect...covering the face then BAMM when it gets close to u
2. Monk thingy...don't know...but that little boy wasnt nice...he saw a ghost sittin on a person's neck and said nothin bout it? come on...give the guy some warning or somethin

reply

If the nane-monk take an advise "She's on your neck!".
You know what will happen to that poor guy life...He will want to die...

So nane-monk din't tell him is right thing to do...
