Exactly, Transformers is in a different ballgame because this is the SEVENTH live-action, Michael Bay universe movie. It STOPPED being marketed around nostalgia for the original 1980s cartoons a LONG time ago. Anyone seeing the NEW movie now is going because they want to see further development of what happened in the Michael Bay universe, not because they once saw the 1986 movie 37 years ago, and have fond memories of Orson Welles.
Same thing with the new Mission: Impossible movie. The FIRST one marketed itself as a big budget, "moderized" return to the original 1960s TV series, they even brought back the "main" character from that one (albeit played bay different actor). People were curious how that 60s television show would work as a slick 90s action movie. But the Mission: Impossible films strayed from that setup a long time ago. Anyone seeing the NEW one is doing so because they want to see the further adventure's of Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt character.
Whereas The Little Mermaid, The Flash, and Indiana Jones are all being marketed around "remember your favorite films from 1989? We're bringing back those beloved characters and RUINING them for you!"
