I don't get the ending

What did I miss? Sam Neil bites Ethan Hawke and gets sick. Then Ethan says that the cure implies drinking vampire blood.

But Ethan wasn't a vampire anymore, so how did that affect the bad guy? And since when drinking vampire blood became a cure? Ethan Hawke and Willem Dafoe did not drink vampire blood to turn back. And we're shown vampires eating their own blood throughout the movie. So I am confused.

Same for the soldiers at the end I guess. Drinking the blood of former vampires turns you back? But again, that's not what Ethan did to become human again, did he?

"Then Ethan says that the cure implies drinking vampire blood."

Correction: CURED vampire blood (human blood that once was vampire-blood).

It existed two ways to become human.

1. Burn in sunlight for a little while
2. Drink cured blood

Yes and we find out there's more than 1 way.🐭

When Ethan's brother bit Elvis he became human again. That's how they discovered that drinking the blood of a former vampire was also a cure.

They treated vampirism like a virus. Once cured you were immune.
