Really couldn't be bothered to make it past the first scene where the population of Hicksville whoop and holler while an animal gets punched in the face for their entertainment. Guess the renaissance was "just something that happened to other people" in some parts of the world...
Chances are that no laws were established regarding robots fighting livestock and so, rightly, that would be an issue reserved for each state. I would imagine Texas would be pretty open to the idea. I'm just sad the bull won. No one can eat a robot when it dies, but a bull could have fed the whole rodeo.
It reminded me of my childhood when i used my Rock 'em Sock 'em robot to hit my cat.
My "#3" key is broken so I'm putting one here so i can cut & paste with it.
I admit I was shocked when he clocked that bull in the nose and immediately said to myself there's going to be a lot of people who are unhappy with that scene. For a kids movie I think it was a really foolish decision.
In case you didn't notice, the bull won the "fight". All that 'animal cruelty' was just CGI stuff anyway. No animal was actually ever laid a hand on in this movie. How about some sympathy for the robot that had its leg torn off?
It kind of surprises me that no one got this, the point was not to show a robot beating up a bull. It was pretty clear, to me at least, that the audience and event organizes were there with the expectation of watching a bull tear a robot apart, not the other way around.
Yes the robot got a couple hits in, but the bull doesn't seem to be harmed at all, and in case you completely missed it, it pretty much completely destroyed the robot, so I'm not really sure what you found so offensive.
It's offensive that an animal was put in there at all. If the point of fighting robots is to keep humans from killing each other, then why throw a bull in the ring?
Hah yeah, it seems silly. But Charlie was desperate for a fight, he agreed to a large bull, they gave him a smaller bull and he lost. Animal cruelty, sure, but it was just to humiliate Charlie...
You have it completely backwards, by the way. He agreed to an 800 lb bull and they gave him a 2000 lb bull.
Also to the people saying it's cruel I think you are deeply...deeply...underestimating the toughness resilience and general badassery of a full grown bull, especially a 2000 lb monster bull. That robot didn't stand a chance. Hell, the champion robot at the end probably wouldn't have stood a chance.
I wasn't exactly offended, but a scene like that is pretty damn odd to see in a modern movie. You'd think with a country full of people appalled at cockfighting and dog fighting would object to the concept of a robot fighting and punching a bull. Then again, Pokemon is still a successful franchise even though it's basically fantastic cockfighting. It's like fantastic racism on TV Tropes, which lists examples such as Bones McCoy's comments toward Spock based on his green blooded, emotionless nature. That isn't as offensive to people because Vulcans aren't real. This is fantastic animal cruelty due to the fact that it's a CGI robot punching a CGI bull, so it doesn't have the same impact as it would if it were two real animals fighting or a bullfighter stabbing a bull with his sword.

And how utterly mind-blowing insane is it that people are offended at a robot hitting a bull, when they couldn't give a toss about the barbaric ways in which their McDonalds, their restaurant meat, pretty much all the meat they consume is killed? The disconnect is out of this world.
