Okay, so what happens to Brett??
Or they simply forgot the dentist who lost his teeth?
shareI literally just finished the move and I came on here to find the exact answer. Last we see is him driving off, I had to rewind and rewatch/skim to see if maybe I was just possessed for a few moments that maybe the demon made me miss that scene.
However, that really bugs me that they didn't really answer that. We just see them eat at the table and nothing being said about him. At the end, it did seemed like they were rekindling their relationship, most likely still going to stay divorsed. I don't think getting rid of a demon out of your daughter would really make couples get back together, even if the husband goes all 'take me instead of my daughter' to an effin demon. Props to the father for that, good man.
All in all it's fulfilling even the smallest details that make a great movie. My score on this movie just lost a point.
Now, I know I am not alone...
After seeing him losing his teeth, which is a great embarrassment to his career, I was wondering what is happening to him. He just disappeared...
And the original family eats a meal together in the ending as if Brett is expendable or something.
Now, I know I am not alone on this topic. Ha!

Use you imagination. It's fun, believe me!

Regarding the reassembled family, Brett IS expendable. I assume there are lots of other dentists around.
What would be the point of showing his fate in detail? This wouldn't improve the movie or the story its telling in any way. On the contrary, I don't like movies which explain everything, because A) that always make me wondering: "I'm not a retard, you don't have to explain everything to me like I'am five years old." and B) many writers put stuff in the script that doesn't make sense. Sometimes it's better to omit things instead of trying to hard and failing by creating plot holes that can destroy a movie's integrity totally - everyone knows that thought "Nah, that's impossible." or "Nobody would behave like that.". So often it's better to leave certain thing to the audience's imagination - especially if the outcome doesn't affect the storyline at att. This way each and everyone will create a plausible solution of their own.
p.s.
Overall a weak movie, except for Jeffrey Dean Morgan's fine performance.
I'm shocked people are making such a big deal about this. I never gave him a second thought after he drove off. I knew he wouldn't be back, he wasn't married to her & those weren't his kids.
shareYeah, I think after he lost his teeth due to a demon kid, he drove off and said *beep* this!" That is it. LOL
shareHe probably figured "no woman is worth this" and stayed as far away as he could.
shareLOL - Good one! It will be nice to show some disclosure on Brett because that bothered me all the way to the ending.
shareYou remember the wife was looking out the window at the whole scene when the demon knocked all his teeth out and the little girl told him earlier in the movie that "I don't like you" so after the whole teeth thing I think he said, "Later" and scurried off into his dentists office to get some repair work. Would you really worry about him if you were the wife? He ran away which showed her he has no stones, besides no teeth.
shareThe fck dude? If a creepy little girl (looking very dark at that point) stares at me and makes me loose all my teeths, i would understand quickly the message "Get the fck out of here".
No need closure, its clear enough that the boyfriend just left and didnt want anything else to do with this family.
That's pretty much what I figured. It has to be rough being in a relationship where the ex is around all the time. Especially if he overheard their conversation when they were taking about the video email.
Also Emily, though she was possessed he didn't know it, was turning hostile towards him and saying she didn't like him being around and stuff. And then of course the wind/teeth thing. Probably just drove the hell away from the family.
The minute he drove away I knew we would not be seeing him again. The fact that the mom didn't wonder what happened to her boyfriend was what bothered me.
shareWell there was more important things happening to them, so i doubt they gave a *beep*
shareIt's typical in movies where the protagonist is divorced from his wife that they'll get back together and the significant other the wife's with is expendable (therefore, not much is given in terms of their history or background). In this movie, the dibbuk started to target the boyfriend by saying that she didn't like him in the garage. Afterwards, when she was swinging in the front yard, he starts to lose his teeth and it's pretty obvious that he just leaves. That's the end of his contribution to the story as "generic good-guy boyfriend who's a romantic foil for the protagonist in the first half of the movie."
shareI don't really care what happened to Mr. -- rather, DR. Mr.-Perfect-Boyfriend, Brett.
What I was wondering was more along the lines of WTF is someone like THAT doing with a girlfriend like Stephanie? I mean, Kyra Sedgwick looked at least 10 years older than he (in reality, she looked old and haggard enough to be her own grandmother), had two girls including a teen, and an ex who was always around.
He, on the other hand, was young, single, fit, not bad looking, and an orthodontist to boot. Basically, he could have his pick of SINGLE women around his own age.
The only reason I could think of for him being in this relationship was that he was a homosexual in need of a beard. Stephanie was too busy, too drunk, and too clueless to figure that out, ever.
near the end when they are rekindling their relationship, i was wondering if stephanie forgot he had a husband/boyfriend.
"am i forgetting something? oh right i had a live-in partner, i wonder where the hell is he"
He eats applesauce, wet bread and other soft things for the rest of his days...
