Cruise as Crockett / Smith as Tubbs

how much more would that have made taking into account the combined megastar power of TC/WS with the MV brand ? Maybe add another 100m on domestic and another 200m overseas (so 463m instead of 163m worldwide)

According to trivia:
Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and Matthew McConaughey were all considered for the role of Det. Sonny Crockett.
Will Smith, Denzel Washington, and Samuel L. Jackson were considered for the role of Ricardo Tubbs

It's perfect the way it is.

nah itd have been cooler with Cruise in shades/blonded hair driving the Ferrari Spider with Will Smith around the blurry dark streets of Miami all filmed digital camcorder style to the new version of In The Air 2night

Cruise probably would have demanded creative control for aspects of the film just like he did with his Mummy film. Even when Mann did "Heat," I don't recall stories of DeNiro or Pacino (who are much bigger stars than Cruise is) demanding creative control. I think the film was fine the way it was.

Well Cruise had just been in Manns Collateral so probably had a decent working relationship. Mann is or was like an A list director..whereas The Mummy dude was like a 1st time director who was probably way out his depth and was trying to establish a Marvel style universe.

maybe Cruise didn't want to do another tv remake.. or maybe since he was doing MI3 around same time he couldn't take the role

I had a hard time seeing Farrell’s Crockett as a Florida cracker which to me was an integral part of the character.
