Unintentionally funny moments

I love this movie. Name moments in the movie that had you cracking up but probably weren't meant to. Anybody offended need not comment. I have so many but I'll only write one.

When he's discovered the little fox and he shoos the fly away and says "Not when I'm around!"

Great stuff.

The way Herzog pronounced the word squirrel absolutely buried me! I had to listen to it over and over, and it never stopped being funny.

That theme song is hiliarious, I cracked up when the pilot started singing along. "Boo Yup Boo Yup Boo"

There's an old saying on the farm,
"If it doesn't scare the cows, who cares?"

Well, I don't think Timmy ever scared the cows, so who cares?

It's not the cows I'd be worried about.

BTW scared cows give buttermilk, so I think the farmers WOULD care.

Now Treadwell crosses a line with the Park Service which we will not cross.
one of many

And what's with the lady with the exposed fiberglass in her house?

I thought the best part was when the narrator commented on his "Prince Valiant" haircut.

I got this movie just last weekend. it is a very interesting film no matter what. For the naturalistic point of view, to the psychological point of view, its wonderful (even though I think he'd give any shrink a run for their money).

Hands down though, the funniest scene, in my opinion, is when the Helicopter Pilot says "I'm sure the bears probably thought he was mentally retarded."

That line got me in fits of giggle that lasted around 10 minutes. Priceless!

reply

i was angry at his pilot friend for that, defiant that timmy might be doing something good.... but after a while it seemed to me that about all he actually did was 'occassionally he would dive naked into the lake to scare away passing aircraft'

wtf is that about? the complete understatement that he never actually did anything while he was in the field was funny and sad (like most bits) at the same time.

reply

'It went, it was doing its duty, it was flying around. Working as busy as a bee, and it **died**, right there... It's beautiful, it's sad, it's tragic. I love that bee.'

'I beat ya, motherf---ers. I beat ya. Beat ya, so f--- you. I beat ya. I beat ya. I'm the champion, I'm the f---ing champion. I beat ya. I beat your f---ing asses. F---ing losers. F---ing nobodies. F---! F---ing f---s!'

Great thread! I don't have the exact quotes but the following parts had us laughing pretty hard.
"I think the bears thought he was mentally retarded or something"
"I don't know why women don't stay around me for too long"
"I wish I were gay; it would have been a lot easier"

And of course everytime the coroner was on camera. Was he auditioning for CSI:Alaska?

reply

CSI Alaska HAHAHAHAHAH that's hilariously witty

You guys are a sadistic lot.

I found it all tragic, sad, and ironic.

Most of Treadwell's quotes I didn't find funny necessarily, maybe eccentric- which doesn't always constitute funny in my opinion.

I think you saw someone stripped of societal inhibitions. He revealed all of his contradictions and inner anguish. These quotes you find humorous actually what humanized him in my eyes.

What a tragic, tortured soul he was. Sorry to spoil the fun gang!

First, I don't think any of "Grizzly Man" can be described as "unintentionally funny."

I think Werner Herzog was well aware of the crazy humor.

I think Timothy Treadwell was well aware of his over-the-top theatricality, and he was ADDRESSING THE CAMERA. In some cases, he was giving the viewer take after take of his speeches. (Keep in mind, Herzog had 100 hours of tape to edit.) Treadwell may have been bipolar, but he was FUNNY. It's why I like him so much, even though he's wacko.

I find lots of the movie funny. And sad. And sick. ALL of it is fascinating.

But I don't think there's any UNINTENTIONAL humor in the movie. It was intentional.

I think this is one reason the movie is great -- it gets people thinking, talking and disagreeing as few movies do.
