I agree.

Not only was it horrible make-up, but I dont think the real Susan ever gained weight like that.

Yeah, it was distractingly bad.

I didn't think it was a bad scene at all. I found it very emotional, very depressing. I think the acting was terrific.

Then again, I was not diverted because I did not recognize the actress. So I wasn't looking at a 'fat suit'; I was looking at a mother in terrible grief.

Had I known before that Sharon Stone was playing that role, I would have looked at her with totally different eyes. I would have been assessing whether I thought her 'suit' looked convincing. It would have distracted me from the movie.

It was only later that I found out Miss Stone played that role - and I was flabbergasted that I had not recognized her. This only added to my respect for her acting capability in this scene.

I thought that was the real mom, I was convinced until it seemed overacted.
