unfortunately you're wrong. Yes, Sam's Club is owned and operated by Wal-Mart, but don't throw Wal-Mart's revenue into Sam's Club's. Sam's Club does not do more business than Costco. Costco competes with Sam's Club, not Wal-Mart, which is who you are comparing Costco's numbers against.

I do think that the cashiers go at lightening speed at my Costco. Seriously, I think there must be some contest going on every day! they barely look you in the eye. But it's good because it is always so crowded.
We have stopped shopping at Sam's COMPLETELY because COSTCO in our town roasts their own coffee beans. Smells wonderful and it is taking place right in the store. And you then grind them in the store before you go home. We like to grind to a Turkish grind.
The coffee is delicious and it is worth it to me to pay a little more for everything.
They also have the best veggie burgers and lobster bisque you have ever tasted.
Many reasons to shop there.
However, the two stores are very similar in layout and products. It's not as if Costco dresses up the building or anything. Costco has the reputation of caring more for their employees.
It is true that Costco has become more popular---and at least I know the reason why for me. COFFEE.
I also never see any cute guys working there like Dane Cook or Dax.

I work at the Costco where they shot this thing and yes it was quite a production!!!! We would operate like normal during the day and then at closing at around 8:30 an army of production staff(about a hundred or so) would come in and transform it into "Superclub" every night except weekends. They would shoot all night and then pack everything up by 7 or 8 am and we would continue with the routine of getting the building ready for business. The scenes where the cast seemed to act inside the building with daylight coming through the front door was some movie magic...They had some GIANT spotlights shinning on some what looked like huge nylon sheets staged at the front door to immitate daylight. Not all of the movie was shot at the warehouse some of it was shot in Santa Fe. They were at our location (Costco #116) for about a month. It was cool at the beginning but was wearing a little thin by the end. It was cool though I got to be in the movie....it's a different world THAT'S FOR SURE....!!!

As far as I know, that's not a lie. I live in Albuquerque and was at the Cotsco while they were filming parts of it once. And I also heard from relatives in Santa Fe that parts were going to be shot there. So hipster is no lying bastard. That's the actual truth.

Yep I was very lucky!!! I even got to eat in the cast tent after my scenes were done...I'll tell you all THEY EAT GORMET ALL THE WAY!!! I had swordfish with asparagus and a Moroccan rice dish(I forgot the name) I was about 10 feet from Jessica...She is absolutely beautiful, but with all "her people" around her and a bodyguard who I'd never like to meet in a dark ally...You just knew you needed to keep a distance away from her. It was truly amazing to get that close to someone in the flesh. I'm sorry if I sound like I'm blowing my own horn but I thought some people would like to know....Thanks

shareYour so right...We actually had an incident involving some paparazzi that got to close and were roughed up pretty good. Also we had this guy who actually found out we were filming at Costco and drove from Massachusetts to Albuquerque non-stop to see if he could get a glimpse of Jessica...We had to call the cops on that guy....Later on in the shoot we had probably 10-12 local cops in addition to the hired security at the warehouse "helping" out. I think they just wanted to get a look at her too.....

I was also an extra in this movie and it was, indeed, filmed all night. There were around 50 extras on any given night.
Not proud of this shot, but you can see me walk into shot from behind the camera when Jessica and Dax are sitting and chatting under the red and white umbrella. You just see the back of me the whole time (dark pants and tan sweater).
You can also see my face clearly (but quickly) in a few of the 'cheering' shots at the cash register. I'm on the left side of the screen with eyeglasses on top of my head (which they told me to remove because of the glare). During this take I forgot to remove them.
I know my comment probably sounds petty to some, but it was my first time being an extra. I was pretty excited. It was all very interesting to see how things went on behind the scenes as I am a fine arts photographer.
Some things I didn't know before:
-We were told not to speak to any of the big actors unless they spoke to us first. We were also warned against taking pics from cell phones.
-There was a lot of 'down' time- lots of waiting- so I brought some books to read. Some of the extras played cards, or just chatted quietly. It can get very boring.
-We got fed every night and the hot meals were spectacular! They served food that you'd pay top dollar for at any restaurant. I made sure to thank the chef!
-After so many 'takes' during the cheering scene, I was very tired and had to actually 'act' enthusiatically. So, it really was my first 'acting' role. lol!
- The extras vie for getting into certain scenes and pushing (literally) to get right up front. I couldn't believe how competative it was. Some of these 'nobodies' acted like they were so important. It was laughable, but also annoying.
Overall I enjoyed the experience and hope to get into another movie in the future.

Being a forklift driver at Costco its hard to imagine anything being able to be "built" in the steel. Did they do those scenes on a movie set or anything?
shareOh yea....They spent quite a long time setting up that area in the steel. Being a night forklift driver myself I was also asked to "set up" some of the isles for shooting....Remember in the film when Dax was showing off his cashiering techniques to the ladies and came to the bag of dog food that had the UPC scan missing and then shot his laser scanner to that Pedigree dogfood pallet in the steel??? Well it was yours truly who put it there. Also my big scene was when I got to be a stand in with Dane and Harland.....Back on the dock when they were playing "paper covers rock" for some snacks....I'm the guy standing next to Harland with the yellow head gear on.
Pretty cool eh????
Actually Harland was funnier than Dane off camera and much more approachable.

If anyone still cares...I was the boom guy on this. We shot at the Costco in Albuquerque at night. We all arrived and waited outside as the last customer left, then they had to "secure" the store for about thirty minutes to be sure customers were out and money and such was put away. We then moved in and shot as fast as we could all night until we were booted out about an hour or so before opening so they could open as normal. This restricted shooting to about 9 hours sometimes, as opposed to a normal 12, and was very difficult. Stocking went on as usual while we shot. The only adjustment was they stocked in one area while we shot in another. Forklifts beeped most of the time, but they were able to isolate that frequency and remove it to an inaudible level in post. The other noise we had to live with...airconditioners, exhaust fans, refrigerators could be shut off for a few minutes but never long enough. This was pretty tough for the actors to perform through. But all the dialogue, gratefully, was what we recorded on the day. The roof was the actual roof, as was the parking lot. We shot the day stuff very early as to not inconvenience customers. Costco makes WAY more money each day than production could afford to pay. This movie shot for about $12m I think.
I still got to ask and im not trying to be stupid but its a *beep* cool idea to make a clubhouse =D in the middle of a store.. how much of it would be actually true about that clubhouse was it there or just a set ... and if it was there then it would have been cool =D man a freakisly cool thing to do :D.. it almost makes you want to create a clubhouse in Urval =D being the store i work in in iceland ;D

I've worked for Costco for 9 yrs and let me assure the store brings in a hell of a lot more than $20K on weekdays and $50K on weekends. Try 10x those amounts.

In the DVD commentary, Dane and Greg (the director) talked about them having to shoot the inside scenes in Costco at night after closing. They also said they only had a few hours each night, and they did clean up after they were done shooting scenes. When they were done shooting one scene, the clean-up crew went after them and clean as they moved on to shoot another scene. So, you're right. They didn't pay them to close the store, the store didn't lose sales to close the store, and no, it's not a set.
