did they shoot at nite and them clean up before opening? and i couldn't imagine them loosing sales to close a store down to shoot a movie, and thats deffinately not a set. so how did they do it?
Lionsgate and Tapestry films both had a hand in the production of Employee Of The Month. Many movies are filmed at selected locations and the proprietor(s) are paid by the production company for the use of their facilities. Example, the film The Rock was actually filmed at Alcatraz and it's proprietor, The National Park Service were compensated by Hollywood Pictures and Simpson / Bruckheimer productions.
In the case on the Costco used for Employee Of The Month, they used the location in Albequerque New Mexico. The entire time of filming all of the crew and equipment trailers were parked in the adjacent parking lot. Costo was paid over $ 5MIL for the use of their facilities to film this movie. Producers always budget for fimlming on location.
As far as the time schedules. The store would close early and open slightly late. Costo did not incurr any losses partially due to the "leasing" fee from the production company. There are a few websites out there with specific details and even photos of all of the trailers in the parking lot. I have even seen a few taken of the actual shooting. This was a "perk" to work at this Costo, you could stay and watch the filming throughout the night.
do you think some of those customers on the film actually checking out were really buying stuff? I highly doubt those girls that liked Vince were really shoppers, but actresses, were buying stuff. But I mean the other shoppers in the background checkout lanes?
Enough people who commented here were extras, like myself. You were told how the filming ran for 12 hours each night. The extras were filmed as shoppers. No 'real' shoppers were used- it would be against regulations. Some of the extras had more acting experience than others and were pulled out for extra scenes.
It was filmed in a 'real' COSTCO in Albuquerque, NM.
I can't believe how long this thread has gotten. Why is this so hard to grasp?
Costco wasn't paid $5Mil That would have been almost half the budget.
The store never closed early and it never opened late. We were allowed to start to load in 15mins before close if we were shooting in the front of the house. If we shot in the back we could start anytime since we never were seen by the customers.
You *are* right, tressone95 - according to the commentary, they were given about 12 hours each night (like from 7pm - 7am, for example) to shoot inside the store while it was empty...
It amazes *me* that they could secure enough extras to make the store look really busy (unless those shots were done during actual store hours...)
So let me get this straight, so most of the film was shot on a sound studio?? But some scenes were shot in the day at a real Sams Club and they used real shoppers for extras?? sounds like BS to me.
OMFG, this is hilarious.....now everyones P-O'd cuz, someone asks a question, and then someone answers it, and everyone MUST be lying, OMG.....go ask your teacher or your mommy, if you want an honest answer, not jo blo on your computer.....friggin crybabies.....
Yea so I was just watching this on Comedy Central. I thought it was pretty clear they just built this as a movie set and then filmed the movie. I thought the set was well made and looked REALLY similar to costco/sam's club stores. That is pretty much the only plus of this movie. I think the set was REALLY realistic and the way the characters acted was really similar to how employees at these stores act as well.
