Ok, for me this was the first time i EVER heard this racial slure, other slurs Randal mentioned i knew of, but can someone please clarify how 'Porch Monkey' is one of them?
The Bridge is Crossed, so stand & Watch it BURN... You've passed The Point of No Return
It's an old word, and I was surprised when one of my black friends said they'd never heard it. It's a derogatory term used by whites who see African-Americans as lazy, just "sitting on their porches". I thought it was hilarious when Randall thought he was going to "take it back", because it's that juvenile mentality at work. Stupid, but funny.
Is yard ape racist? Cuz I call my niece that all the time cuz she goes crazy when she's outside. I've called her it in front of my black neighbors too. I hope they don't think I'm some nutjob hatemonger... I had no idea it was a racial slur.
"I hate to say this, but this place is getting to me. I think I'm getting the Fear."
I have heard a lot of racial slurs around black people, but I have never heard of "porch monkey" until I saw Clerks 2 a year ago. I have heard of monkey as a racial slur granted, but never porch monkey. I thought of the word the same way Randall did, I thought it meant lazy person sitting in the porch not lazy black person sitting on the porch.
Now, I am never going to hear about porches and monkees the same way again.
For not knowing your racial slurs! You're all too lazy to go forth into the world and learn all that there is to know about how to insult an entire branch of the human species! Therefore, I dub you all PORCH MONKIES!!!!
Seriously though, you guys need to know this stuff. Otherwise some Jew might cast a sheeny curse on you and you wouldn't even know what hit you.
Still a hurtful word depending on where you are in the country. Yes this is America and yes freedom of speech, but why say something hurtful and racist just because you can.
you think Porch Monkey is fun, try Spear Chucker, thats one of the most un-racial word combinations that turned into a racial slur ever.
Of course I knew what Porch Monkey was, I grew up in Clantee(Santee, CA) so I know most if not all, although the *beep* knife" one caught me by surprise, and the "sheeney curse" was new to me, don't know that many jews anyways :p.
I live in Baltimore, so it's a pretty common term....although it's used pretty much by/for anyone (black or white) who lives in "the ghetto" parts of the city. Because both races have adopted the practice of sitting on their "stoops" watching the neighborhood.
The first time I heard it when I was a kid, I was told its a "black person that just sits on their porch, waiting for their welfare check." It might depend on what region of the country you live in, i.e. I'm in the South, or how many racist people are around you. It just sounds funny. "Porch Monkey" Its one of those silly racial slurs. Like calling a black child a "niglet". "Niglet" almost sounds cute.
Facts are meaningless. You could use facts to prove anything that's even remotely true!
" I was told its a "black person that just sits on their porch, waiting for their welfare check.""
But that doesn't make any sense!
Since when do monkeys get welfare (or any other) checks?! Animals don't understand or handle money, for crying out loud. Some other explanation should've been offered.
are you really this stupid? it's a racist term because of the definition of porch you just listed plus the term monkey is sued to degrade black people.
did i really just have to explain this to you you fucking idiot?

Don't try to make nice of it by LYING and saying people call white people that too. You know damn well when someone says porch monkey they are talking about the black folk.
"Spear chucker" means "spear thrower." It is used to reference the savage vision many people have of Africa and Africans, and thus it is calling a black person a savage essentially.
I had never heard of it as a racial slur before. But I had heard of it. In fact, my friends and I used to use the term to describe us chillin on one of our porches late at night. We'd say, "lets just go to so and so's house and be porch monkeys." One of our friends was black and he never seemed to take offense...
Until about 15 years ago, us Brits used to be able to collect tickets from jars of Golden Shred marmalade. Once you had a few, you could send them off for a 'Golly Wog', which was a small pin badge characterture of a cute looking black fella. They came with different uniforms (policeman, fireman etc) and were considered as British as red telephone boxes, E-type Jags, Mk V Spitfires and high tea.
Almost overnight, they were banned for having racist connotations (due to the word 'wog'). Kids of all skin colours used to love them and collect them, but now their name is considered to be a racist slur.
It's funny how times change.
"Even a big bitch cockroach like you should know... Never, but never, fu_ck with The King"
All it takes is someone to take offense to something and every company will be quick to protect that bottom line while the media to exploit it for ratings. Perfect example would be "Tropic Thunder". It was said that certain equality groups wanted to boycott the movie saying it was reminiscent of the "blackface" comedians of the past.
Robertson's retired the Golliwog tokens in 2001, I think. I saw a display of Golliwog dolls in a shop window recently, but I thought they weren't allowed to be distributed anymore. My friend is under the impression that they are marketed under a different name. Does anyone know what it is?
Twelve times did the iron register of time beat on the sonorous bell metal
Have you never seen Boys in the Hood. They were so calledporch monkeys, no racial slur intended, but this is what his racist grandmother would have been referring to
