sequel
they should make a sequel and finish the incomplete story...
shareI'm a critical, logical thinker and an avid reader of books; I've also experienced the wonders of childhood. As such, I not only well know how to use my imagination, but enjoy doing so. However, there comes a point in time where every once in a while and even though it just may not me the __ thing to say, I like an ending, a good and proper ending. This is not to say I require a happy ending, but some sort of closure for the story I have just been told.
These days it's the trend in Hollywood -- and else where -- to end a story abruptly. This form of open ended storytelling is lauded by film snobs and hailed as a wonderful narrative style. Those who oppose this idea are considered imbeciles and told they must need things 'spoon fed' to them. This is unfair and untrue.
Being that there is no way for a movie to tell the complete life story from start to finish of all of its characters, no one in their right mind would expect not to have to use their imagination to envision what might have happened after the credits rolled but it's nice to sometimes have a little direction. For an open ending like this, the possibilities are literally endless and we're given no real basis for how to interpret things.
Imagine if you were reading a book only to find that the last hundred and fifty pages were blank? Imagine an 'opposites attract' love story where the two main characters meet, find out in some comical way they don't like each other and BAM! the movie ends. Yes we could use our imagination, but why they hell did we pay money when we could have stayed home and imagined things the way we wanted them to end from the trailers?
Did Sherry get clean and stay that way? Did Lexi eventually live with her? Did Sherry's creepy daddy grope her again sending her on another freaked out dope binge? Did Sherry overdose and die or get infected from a dirty needle?
We're not even given the slightest inkling about what might have happened and sometimes, just sometimes, using your imagination to fill in all the blanks just isn't all that fun.

Everybody needs love. Have you held your hostage today?
But didn't she have to go to a hospital? It was either hospital or prison... So she had to be at 8 am on monday at the police station. Was that time spent with Alexis a farewell, before they take her to the hospital? I'm not sure...
