Hatchet (2006) or Friday the 13th (1980)?
I prefer Friday the 13th (1980)

Hatchet! The first Friday had very little Jason. Friday the 13th II is superior in every single way.
shareJason was never meant to be anything more than a plot device. The original Friday was a whodunnit mystery with no supernatural overtones. I do enjoy the sequel though (my favorite Jason).
Anyway, to answer OP's question, Friday the 13th. Hatchet is decent for what it is but it's a bit too self-aware and over the top for my taste. I understand that was the point, but I prefer straight forward horror movies.
Jason was never meant to be anything more than a plot device. The original Friday was a whodunnit mystery with no supernatural overtones. To be fair, it's a pretty awful whodunnit. The killer never even appears before her reveal.
Hatchet, Hatchet II and Hatchet III are all better than the original Friday the 13th. Compare them to Friday the 13th Part IV The Final Chapter however and then you have a tougher decision to make...
shareComparing apples and oranges. Friday the 13th is an old-school mystery/suspense film which didn't become a slasher movie until the sequel. Hatchet, is an entertaining parody of 80s slasher films, but with a heavy dose of horror comedy.
If I'm looking for a whodunit mystery I go with Friday13th, if I'm looking for a fun popcorn movie with over-the-top gore, then it's hatchet. Both are enjoyable in their own way.
Friday the 13th
shareThere's no comparison. "Hatchet" is a campy joke flick with a boring story and subpar women whereas "Friday the 13th" is a classic seminal slasher superior to "Hatchet" in every way.
