So much like Forrest Gump it's not funny

It's like he was going for Forrest Gump 2 but with a twist. I just watched Forrest Gump and I was reminded of how similar they are.

It isn't even remotely similar to Forrest Gump in plot or character wise.

How about the fact that both movies follow a 'special' man who goes on lots of special adventures throughout his life and meets an array of colourful characters, both characters never met one of their parents, both characters have a soul mate who they've loved for a long time but haven't always been around. Overall the whole style of both movies was just very similar. I don't know how you couldn't think that after I explained it to you.

By that logic any film with a human going on an adventure and meeting a variety of colorful people is similar. I guess that means Alice In Wonderland is similar too? The Notebook has 'both characters who have a soul mate who they've loved for a long time but haven't always been around'. This isn't a very original film is it? Get real. They're nothing alike stylistically or story wise and you're desperately trying to find similarities that could be said about other countless films. I'll throw other ones out there with 'special' people, how about Slingblade, I Am Sam and Rain Man?

Watch this and please tell me, with all honesty, they aren't virtually the same movie. http://www.collegehumor.com.au/video/3856708/the-curious-case-of-forrest-gump/

I have viewed this film numerous times and not once did I take away a Forrest Gump vibe. You could literally make comparisons to hundreds of other films that have a similar tone. It's quite pointless to pick only Forrest Gump, any film can have correlating similarities. I could watch an animation and pick out connections to a horror film, that doesn't make them the same stylistically nor character wise. Are all Biographies the same? Is Platoon the same as Full Metal Jacket since they are both wars films? They don't even slightly resemble each other in mannerism or demeanor.

Forrest Gump is about a feeble-minded kid growing up in the south and Benjamin Button about a child being discovered by a black family, aging differently and essentially being taking care of by his lover at the conclusion. Nothing like Forrest Gump. Come on, you can do better than this. It's not even in the same genre as Forrest Gump.

Ok no offence, but you're becoming ridiculous now. I don't know how you could NOT see the similarities, ESPECIALLY since I explained them all to you. And especially since Forrest Gump and Ben Button were written by the same person. I guess Star Wars and The Hidden Fortress are 2 COMPLETELY different, polar opposite movies as well?

Ok bruh, we shall settle this dispute with mud wrestling.

That's only fair

Its Nov 2015 . I just saw this movie, 7 yrs later--- because everyone kept saying it was so much like Forrest Gump. I finally did watch it, because I make an effort to see all Cate Blanchett movies.
The story isnt at all like Forrest Gump. You could sit and compare any Romantic Comedy- Crime movie- scary movies.. college Frat movie--list goes on and on and arrive at similarities. Not to mention remakes of the same movie.
Relax and just watch a movie -- being a movie fan doesnt mean you have to be a critic

That's what I thought. Forrest Gump revisited. And like that movie I wasn't much taken with with it. Sentimental for sentimental sake and too fantastical.

Structurally, it very much does use the Forrest Gump template, following the simple southern character traverse through America and its different time periods. That fact is undeniable, given it's the same pen as Forrest Gump.

Visually and aesthetically, i would compare it more to another Tom Hanks movie, the Green Mile, in that both show the passage of time being very slow and monotonous, as well as the very somber endings that to me, again underscore how slow time can be.
