I took my 12 year old to this and we laughed our asses off. I really liked it. It seems like everyone else hated it. We were like 2 of 6 people on a Friday Night in the whole theatre and that was 2 weeks ago. I like the kid from American Pie (whatever his name is) and Billy Bob is just psycho. I suppose since I sucked in Gym Class, I could relate. So sue me.
I've been reviewing films for 7 years now and I must say that I actually enjoyed this film--I praised the film in my review and I'm very harsh with comedies. I liked the "Meet the Parents" little war formula there with many funny moments.
I went in expecting a B movie and it was a B movie. But several parts had me laughing pretty hard and overall it kept my interest. Billy Bob was hillarious with his low key comments as was Sean William Scott with his over the top energy and priceless facial expressions. This was well worth seeing and one I would actually watch from time to time on DVD rather than it just sitting on the shelf.
Yeah, I laughed quite a bit but even when not laughing, I enjoyed the nasty and bitter humour. Woodcock was a total dick, and the sappy happy ending was disappointing. There was an interesting little feature on the dvd about PE trauma tales, with people who worked on the movie telling their PE experiences, but also a PE teacher was interviewed, who has taught for 40 years. He said things have changed and they now try to include everyone, whereas as the movie shows the typical sadistic PE teacher uses humiliation and peer pressure to attempt to bully people into activity. I liked it because it was such a good portrait of the BS approach to PE, but of course the ending could have been so much better. But then Woodcock would have ended up beaten and incinerated. :)
