Queen Latifa has never heard of Charlie Pride

There was a line that Queen Latifa said to her cousin. She said "Girl there is no such thing as a black female country singer." I guess she has never heard of Charlie Pride who is a famous black country singer. There is also cowboy troy on Nashville Star. she should get her facts together because black people can play music but not limit themselves to hip-hop and r&b. there is a small percentage of black country singers but I hope it grows.

Quite a number of younger people don't know about Charlie Pride, but I doubt Latifah herself has not heard of him, but clearly her character hadn't. These days if you go to the clubs in the south there are quite a number of African American, Asian American and Latin American country singers...it's just that no one above the Mason-Dixon has heard of them...yet.

In fact, technically...blues is country music which means that Howlin' Wolf, Son Seals, Robert Johnson, Big Maybelle and all their contemporaries were all country singers.

There's also Darius RUcker!

reply

I guess not.
But there's Mr. Pride, Cowboy Troy and (since your post) Darius Rucker and Rissi Palmer (female).

Personally, I love country music and I'm glad that Darius Rucker is a major part of contemporary country.

But Darius Rucker was not a Country Singer in 2006 when the movie was made.

Charlie Pride hadn't been relevant as far as Country Music for 20 years in 2006 so at the time there really wasn't a black Country Singer.

yep. i know. that's why i put the other things in parentheses.

"Do you even remember what you came here to find?"
