Queen Latifa has never heard of Charlie Pride

There was a line that Queen Latifa said to her cousin. She said "Girl there is no such thing as a black female country singer." I guess she has never heard of Charlie Pride who is a famous black country singer. There is also cowboy troy on Nashville Star. she should get her facts together because black people can play music but not limit themselves to hip-hop and r&b. there is a small percentage of black country singers but I hope it grows.

reply

True....but I don't know of any female ones, yet??

"everyday above ground is a good one" :))))

reply

Exactly, she said there's no such thing as a "black FEMALE country singer".

The comment wasn't in any way reflective of black's musical ability, it was merely stating a fact.

I think that she had that line to show how the original character had such a miserable life and didn't believe/see how anything better could happen. She had a book of possibilities... but nothing she tried to pursue. That's why she discouraged her sister (or was it friend) from pursuing her own dream.

But after she really starts living she sees that anything is possible. I'm sure the new her would encourage the singer to go where no one has before. :)

I'm watching it right now, and she didn't say Female. She said black country singer, so...

Future Tony Award Winner! :P

reply

Not really like she wrote the dialogue herself.

reply

It was her sister she was talking to, not her cousin. Also, it's Queen Latifah, not Latifa. And, just for the record, I've never heard of Charlie Pride either ;)

omg Moondazy you haven't heard the songs "Roll On Mississippi" Or "Burger and Fries".....I think he even sang the popular song "Kiss A Angel Good Morning".........you are just absolutely crazy for not knowing this pure gem!!!

reply

Nope, never heard of those songs. I'm not really a fan of country music, so that's probably why.

I'm not a fan of country music, but I sure know about Country Charley Pride. "Kiss an Angel Good Morning" is a great song. He is a great singer. Maybe you should check into his songs. Also, try Mel Tillis.

LOL: I was thinking the EXACT same thing!

reply

Look up the word "female," it may explain a lot.

reply

I will concede a small possibility that she hadn't heard of Charlie Pride — and a much greater possibility that Georgia Byrd hadn't.

Or should we direct our ire to the screenwriter?

Well, the thing is, what Georgia actually said was: "Girl, ain't no such thing as a black country singer" -- she didn't say "female".

I don't know how long he remained popular on the country charts, but Charley Pride's crossover fame reached its zenith way back in the 70's, which might explain why he was unknown to Georgia and her sister.
