Louisa and Martin don't belong together

It was fairly evident in S6 that these two dont belong together. and while people seem to sympathize with Louisa I find her grating. She knew who Martin was and her belief that its always difficult with him just irritate me now (in S7; Ep7).
If the show goes into S8, let it NOT be a continual retreading of this couple, let them grow and move on. They can still parent without being together.

Why do people buy into fictional marriages of fictional people?

reply

Because they speak to real life. Real people wrote the stories and characters.

It's easy to say, "It's just a TV show/movie," but when a couple reminds you of you and your significant other and then a real-life person (the writer) decides the couple is actually bad for each other, it can feel a little bit like a critique of your own relationship.

I know that sounds silly, but I think a lot of people (myself included) sometimes can't help but personalize works of fiction.

I agree. she's a very tiresome woman. always moaning and complaining. Nothing Martin does ever seems to please her. Don't know why he puts up with her.

I just want you imagine living with Martin for a day. It's difficult even if you love him. I know because I had a similar experience.

She knew what he was like before she married him. and they'd been living together for some time before the wedding. can't have come as a surprise.

LOL! Good luck with that view, you're in a tiny minority on that one!

SPOILER ALERT if you haven't yet seen Series 4.

I'm in the midst of series 4. I'm very disappointed in Louisa, who I used to like. She is treating Martin like crap for no reason. Their decision not to get married was mutual, then she moved to London and he didn't hear from her. She returned several months later, pregnant. He immediately offered to marry her (an offer she scoffed at), and he has done everything he can to be involved and look after her. He asked why she didn't let him know about their baby, and she answered that she had not wanted to hear the response that she imagined he would have given. This is blaming him for behavior she has fantasized, but that he hasn't committed. She rejects him and acts angry toward him as if he has done something wrong, but he hasn't. Without any motivation provided by the writers for the way she is acting, I can only conclude that she has become an irrational bitch, a condition from which I hope she recovers.

I used to like her, too, but she has changed for the worse. Louisar knew very well what Martin was like, yet she accepted him, loved him, had sex with him, and agreed to marry him (twice). Then she turned around and behaves as if she can't stand the way he is. She is continuously angry with him, criticizing, and nagging him to be something he is not. She never lets up and he has no chance to relax under her constant disapproval or to enjoy her company. She wants him prancing around and grinning, and that's just not the way he is or will ever be. He would be better off without her.
