...watch more than 20 minutes of this film. I found it awful, only singing, singing, singing... no dialogues, it was too much for me. Plus, most of the landscapes were clearly made with CGI, and I found that annoying too. I rarely stop a movie after watching only a few minutes, but this time I just had to :(
Movie musicals are something new to you, are they? Give Les Misérables (2012) a watch, and then you can come back and whine some more. Neither have you heard of the amazing Tim Burton and his unique style in movie making.
Why are the complaints futile and pathetic. The OP clearly states their perspective and why they stopped watching it. They didn't so much rip on the movie, but rather state why it wasn't for them. You come along, and you act like a petulant child. As a huge fan of Les Mis, and quite a few other musicals, as well as having performed in 9 plays/musicals in college, the first 20 minutes were not that great for me. The thing is, I didn't have to qualify my answer by telling you my background, but I felt that you needed to know that people who like these things may also not totally be into this film, or at least the first 20 minutes. Les Mis is a great film, and my all time favorite musical, and I loved it on Broadway, but I honestly don't know if that is going to win the OP over. I like horror flicks and musicals, yet this film wasn't for me, and that's ok. If you got enjoyment out of it, that's cool as hell, but to make fun of OP, not cool. Try growing up and realizing that not everybody likes the same things that you like, and that's okay.
It didn't read to me like he was saying the OP had to like the same things. The OP complained that he didn't like it because there was too much singing and not enough dialogue. The response was that this is a musical and as such there will be singing. The comment about Les Miz was simply that if you think Sweeney Todd has a lot of singing, you should see how much more there is in Les Miz (and, as someone who can't stand Les Miz, I'd point out that the stage version of Sweeney Todd has even more music than the film has).
These types of "musicals" are more "operettas." The traditional American musical (which is constantly evolving, I admit) is made typically made up of dialogue scenes to advance the (usually light or comic) story, with songs added for further character, and sometimes story, development. I also cannot make it through much of Sweeney Todd, Les Mis, Phantom of the Opera or any of the recent similar operetta style musicals. (Ironically, I absolutely LOVE the comic and witty operettas of Gilbert and Sullivan. Also, I really like Hamilton just from hearing the album; I've not seen the production.)
I guess I just prefer musicals that I can whistle.
So, what it boils down to is: some people like Apples, some like Oranges? It would serve you well to learn some manners and be more understanding of a person's opinion, as your response is rude and obnoxious.
"Give Les Misérables (2012) a watch, and then you can come back and whine some more."
I'm not quite sure what was your real intention behind this remark, but Les Misérables is SO much better than Sweeney Todd. Les Misérables is one of the best movies from the 2010s. It was absolutely stunning: the sets, the costumes, the music (yes the facts the actors sang directly on set for the official recording added something), the cinematography, the acting, etc. Simply wow.
Anyways, if anything that movie will have the same effect as it had on me, give a certain taste for musicals.
