Instead of crossing the whole word out and writing the new one with a correct spelling on that sheet of paper, why couldn't Leonardo Di Caprio's character just add those lines to the misspelled third letter "I" to make it an "E" and it will look neater?

Cos the movie wanted to make a point that this envelope couldn’t be any other envelope. The fact that it’s instantly recognisable to the audience and the characters they know of it and it basically gives away Sullivan
