Horrible camera work

Someone starts speaking? Zoom in. A spaceship appears? Zoom in. It's ridiculous.

I know, "shaky cam", like the Bourne movies, but those are still watchable. This is not, I couldn't make it through the first episode.

Seriously, what were they thinking?

It was a bit annoying to have the camera always zooming around, but it did not bother me so much. That was totally escapist SF nonsense that I mostly enjoyed. It got more than a little ridiculous when many turned out to be Cylons, but it was entertaining.

It's true that it felt weird the first time, but after a few episodes I started to like it. We're used to the 'Star Wars style', with wide shots and the ships crossing the screen, and it takes a while to get used to a different style.

However... it depends on the viewer. The Bourne movies are probably among my top favorite action movies, but I'm aware that other people just find them barely watchable.

This show is a masterpiece, though, so I'd recommend giving it a try. If you still can't handle the space battles, think that after the first 4-5 episodes and once they get away from the Cylons you'll see them only once in a while.

Yeah, I'm glad the A.D.D. shakey cam trend is over. I knew it would age badly.

reply

I like the zig-zag-zoom cinematography.

You're the one?

reply

I don't suffer from motion sickness nor am I old, so yes I like it.

reply

just this. couldn't watch it because the camera wouldn't stop zooming and shaking. pity cos the program content seemed to be quite good

first 3 Bourne films by P Greengrass are the only films to have done shaky camera work well, imo
