What was the point of the Taylor scene?

Why have some random girl make out with him, never to appear in the film again?
Good points made throughout this thread about the "point" of the scene as far as the plot, Toby's character & sexuality, Toby & Bree's growing relationship, etc., but no one has mentioned the fact that the scene was really funny! Having Bree revert to a formal introduction in response to this wild behavior just cracked me up. In fact, I found many of Bree's reactions to her circumstances very funny. The movie's poignancy is underscored by the on-going humor throughout. Both Felicity & Kevin had great comic timing, imho. Anyone else laugh during this film?
