Wonder Julianne Moore wasn't nominated

I just saw this film on dvd and it's a shame julianne moore was never nominated. compared to reese witherspoon's role and acting, julianne's is more worthy of the Oscar.

I thought Reese Witherspoon did a fine job as June Carter Cash in the biopic Walk the Line, but I agree w/ you that Julianne Moore was so wonderful in this movie and her work really deserves recognition.

reply

I think it's because hardly anybody saw this movie and Dreamworks did such an appalling job of promoting it.

reply

I know! Most people I know have never even heard of this movie. The only reason I ever heard of this movie was because I saw the trailer for it ONCE! I never saw another trailer for it and it didn't even come to the Loews near my house, which shows all major movies and some limited ones. Hopefully now that it's out on video more people will take an interest in it. And she should have definitely been nominated for it.

reply

The only reason I even knew this movie existed was because I was bored one afternoon and went to Roger Ebert's website. It happened to be there.

Dreamworks really should have done a better job of advertising it. I thought it was excellent.

It taught a story of taking what you have in life and making the best of it.

reply

Truly. She did a fantastic job! The problem is, the movie wasn't popularized enough. And sometimes the Oscars only recognize more popular movies.

"I'm see through!"

reply

Dreamworks pushed all it's marketing to War of the Worlds vs this outstanding movie. Gads, why don't they have those kinds of contests any more (need brains to win, not just luck).... Ms Moore was great in this movie...

reply

I read some critic's column about that decision of Dreamworks'. I don't remember who the critic was, but I liked how he/she put it: "If you weigh Julianne Moore and Tom Cruise on the scales of acting ability, the scales become a catapult."

reply

I'm assuming the critic meant in favor of Julianne? Cause Cruise sure as heck can't act.

I think yoour right!

She absolutely deserved to win! She did an outstanding job.

i don't think it really matters that she wasn't nominated for an oscar because today the academy awards are outstandingly predictable and awful judges of true talent. once you've won an oscar you're career goes steadily downhill like an unsuccessful marriage, some may disagree with me but most winners tend to lose their brilliance and credibility. take for example nicole kidman who after winning for the hours (which julianne moore was also nominated for her role) mainly starred in movies like bewitched, the interpreter, and birth seemingly selling her face for the cover rather than her talent. don't take this the wrong way, i believe this was a great performance by moore, but i don't think that her name missing from the list of nominees is going to harm her career nor is it an insult.

i loved everything about this movie

I agree, Julianne should have gotten somethin' for this moive!!
Woody was fabulous as well.

Let's think of actors/actresses who have won Oscars and then went on to do little else that was noteworthy:

Marissa Tomei
Cuba Gooding Jr.
Mira Sorvino
Gwyneth Paltrow
Halle Berry
Daniel Day-Lewis
Joe Pesci
Kevin Spacey
Roberto Benigni
Helen Hunt
Kim Basinger
Catherine Zeta-Jones
Chris Cooper

and on, and on, and on....

not everyone gets nominated I'm shure she was on the list for next in line or something. This was with out a doubt though one of the best films of that year and should be recognized more. It deserves to be in the top 250 films on this site for shure.

reply

That Daniel Day-Lewis example doesn't quite hold up, even if he only works every several years.

reply

It was a bad year for the female leads for nominations. Witherspoon was ok and shouldn't of been nominated and than win! That's why I don't watch the oscars but than again I did watvh 2006.

Honestly, I think Julianne Moore is better off without an Oscar. It seems once you win, you are offered high-budget action movies or lucrative "face of" (pick your cosmetic company). Once one bites into that poisoned apple, your credibility as an actor diminishes. Julianne appeared as one of three in a cosmetics ad but her output continues to sparkle.
