Rose McGowan as Bettie?

I apologize if this has been brought up on another post, but I caught the movie last night and my first thought was Rose McGowan would have been prefect as Bettie Page.

Grecthen Mol > Rose Mcgowen as Bettie Page. She's mesmerizing in this film, the sun and moon's light balance within her eyes.

Coming is my style, but I have to go.

Gretchen Mol was perfect (and perfect-looking) in this film. I don't think Rose McGowan would have been even half as good in the role.

Anybody but the generic, skinny blond. I can't believe they passed up curvy brunette actresses for Gretchen Mol, WTF??

reply

Rose McGowan doesn't have the body for it. She may be beautiful by today's standards, but you have to remember Bettie was full-figured and in her 30s. Gretchen had more of the "Rubenesque" body type that was popular in the 50s. Marilyn M. also had the same type of body.

Rose used to have the body for it. If you look at her work before Charmed, she's lost some weight.

Bettie was not "rubinesque" or fat. She was fit and a bit more curvy than models are today. I wouldn't say she was bigger than a modern size 8, which is not big at all. She had a perfect body.

I thought Gretchen was good as Bettie Page. Would've been interesting to see Rose in the role. Maybe if there's another film about her, they could cast her?

>>She was fit and a bit more curvy than models are today<<

what do you think Rubenesque means? it doesn't mean fat, if you look at the original. These days, it's used as a euphemism for large (overweight) women, which is incorrect.

reply

why do people keep forgetting that Rose McGowan is only an okay actress, she isn't good enough for these roles or she would get them.

Heath Ledger Come Back,
This isn't funny at all.

reply

I had no idea. I thought rubenesque meant very large.

reply

I don't know. I've looked at some of Rubens' work and I don't know that I'd call them "fit and curvy." Well, only if I was using that as a euphemism for a little flabby. In which case the word "fit" would then be a lie and "curvy" would be an understatement.

I thought Bettie had an innocent charisma about her? Isn't that a pertinent quality? Rose does not have that innocence. The actress they've chosen certainly has that innocent aura about her, I've seen many of her past films & she always had this sweetness from the 1930s, she doesn't even seem like she belongs in our time period but back in old Classic hollywood.

I must admit, I was left thinking she could have been better potrayed.

In my opinion Rose McGowan would have been fantastic.

They like it better than no thing.

I thought Gretchen Mol was perfect in the role, I could see anyone else. Especially not Rose McGowen as her. Gretchen looked quite a bit like her.

real human being and a real hero

reply

Certainly she could have. Debi Mazar as well. Gretchen Moll does such a great job here, it's hard to imagine anyone else. This is a perfect portrayal, IMO.
