Rose McGowan as Bettie?
I apologize if this has been brought up on another post, but I caught the movie last night and my first thought was Rose McGowan would have been prefect as Bettie Page.

I could see her as bettie page, I can also see Dita Von Teese playing bettie too
"We're sorta like 7-Eleven. We're not always doing business, but we're always open".
She definitely could do Bettie.
Oh and I just had to comment on your signature ... "Is it dead?" =)

lol my fave part of the movie
you know what we need, we need some *beep* rope
"We're sorta like 7-Eleven. We're not always doing business, but we're always open".
Is that right, Rambo?
LOL!
I have to say ... it's always nice to run into a fellow Saints fan.

Its my fave movie by far!!! In fact I think I might just have to watch it tonight!!!
We could kill everybody
"We're sorta like 7-Eleven. We're not always doing business, but we're always open".
Her shape would fit the role better.
I found the girl playing Bettie way too thin, and not voluptious at all, as Bettie was.
Dita von Teese would be no good either, since she is too thin as well.
Agreed -- Bettie was certainly more Rubenesque than Gretchen Mol. Nonetheless, there's one thing that Gretchen does that Rose cannot: Act. The only other candidate that comes to mind would be Kate Winslet. Dye her hair black and there you have it. Voluptuous -- check. Gorgeous? -- check. More talent than Rose McGowen? -- oh, hell yes.
shareIf Bettie Page could come back today, looking like she looked in her prime, she would NOT be able to get a part in Hollywood. She would not be SKINNY enough! Well she could get one part - playing Bettie Page!
I saw her when she was in her prime, and her beauty was hard to describe. Her body was perfect for that time. But she was not just body. Her face fit her body and hair style perfectly. There was not a hair out of place. As someone said on another thread, NO Hollywood actress today could look like she did then!

Except that Rose McGowan canNOT act to save her life. She's terrible.
shareThese comments make me wonder just how familiar you people are with Betty Page. Betty was not rubinesque in the least. I suggest you people actually familiarize yourselves with some Betty Page images. Gretchen Mol was the perfect casting. It's nice that you all have your opinions but to make them good you need to have some accuracy in your statements and Betty being rubinesque I find to indicate you think she was just because of that era when she posed. You couldn't be more wrong.
shareYou're absolutely right, woofagooba... Obviously those posting that Gretchen Mol was too skinny didn't watch the extra features on the DVD. The short piece featuring the real Bettie Page shows her as skinnier than Mol.
I've adored Bettie Page's work for years and thought the movie was very, very good.
And now for something completely different...
Exactly right, Gretchen Mol was the perfect actress for the role. Mol captures the innocence of Bettie Page. She is a very talented actress whereas Rose McGowen is ghastly. Also, the the body type of Mol is a near perfect match. Kate Winslet is extremely talented but not the right body type.
shareI think Kate Winslet is bigger than Bettie Page.
shareUm ... no.
Look-wise, of course Rose McGowan would be the ideal choice. But the actual ACTING took the innocence that Gretchen Mol pulled off so freaking well. Rose McGowan can't play innocence without it being snarky, and as far as I know, Dita von Teese can't even act. So ... yeah.
agreed! Rose or Dita von Teese would've been perfect!

I think Rose is an excellent actress, but I do not think she would have been right for this part. She is much too sensual to be able to pull off that kind of innocence.
Some mornings it just doesn't pay to wake up and chew through the straps.
I think they casted the movie perfectly. Its hard to find 'real' women to match the wonderful world of the 50's and 60's, but Gretchen still looked a LOT like her, and her acting was fantastic. I also think it was a great choice to go with someone 100% natural and not TOO high profile on the celebrity radar. Dita is great in her own way's by all means, but she is 'enhanced' and a bit over the top, where Betty Paige is truly the definitive girl next door. If you have a few extra bucks to spend, get a basic playboy cyberclub subscription and go through the vast archives of playmates from the 50's through the mid 60's for a while and you'll quickly see how utterly bizzare the 'modern' atypical model has become. It's a shame I wasn't 21 years old in 1964 :(
And yes, there's also a ton of Dita on there....
And PS, I love Rose McGowan too, don't get me wrong :)
Just watched it and loved it. But, no, I don't think Rose is a strong enough actress to have pulled it off. And just because Dita obviously models her look after Bettie doesn't mean that she should have played the part. Gretchen was great.
