Really she is much more beautiful. Jennifer Connelly looks like a man or a 12 year old boy. She is as skinny as a refugee in Afghanistan. Kate is much more beautiful a better actress, and doesn't act like a b!tchy ice princess. My mom and I can't stand Jennifer Connelly. when my mom first saw thew movie she said...Ugh, not that huzzy. Why do men think Jennifer is more beautiful????

Well ... because she is beautiful ... but so is Kate Winslet. They are very different but both can be appreciated for their beauty and their talent.

+1. i love them both tremendously. they are both classic beauties & currently 2 of the most talented actresses of our time. this entire film was brilliantly casted.
with that said, to some of the other posters: i really can't stand the double standard these days. a woman can be more full figured & she's gorgeous, voluptuous, etc. on the other hand, you have a thin woman & she looks like a boy, she's anno, etc.
did it ever occur to some of you that some women (people) actually have high metabolisms? insulting someone for being thin is just as bad as putting down someone for being overweight. an eating disorder is an eating disorder, whether you eat too much or eat too little. neither should be encouraged, but by insulting people for their weight, you aren't helping the cause only further contributing to the problem. stop comparing women & putting them up against each other & appreciate each for their own attributes.
btw- personally, if i were a man, i would probably go for kate & i am stick thin woman like jennifer. it has nothing to do with weight or looks, & everything to do with personality. kate just seems more engaging. jennifer is more intimidating. both extremely beautiful. it would be a win win situation, but face it, none of you or 'us' will ever be with either. so sit back & enjoy their films.

Jennifer is a godess...I dont know if there is a male out there who watches this movie and wants to rewind it after the part when shes in bed in her underwear when she wants to keep the son in bed with them

Jennifer's character had an outside job where she was out in the public eye. Kate's character stayed at home with the small child. In the film, Kate's character was not into maximizing her sex appeal (notwithstanding the fact she ordered the sexy swimsuit to attract Brad). I recall at least one scene where she was conspicuously not wearing much if any mascara. It occurred to me that she was meant to be a tiny bit on the frumpy side. I am sure if both women were equally dressed up for an occasion, they would both be very beautiful and it comes down to whether you fancy Kate's girl next door look or Jennifer's more intimidating beauty. I personally like both apples and oranges.

WOW, COMPLETELY disagree! Jennifer is (imo) one of the most beautiful women in the world. Her striking eyebrows, black hair against pale skin with blue eyes, gaw!
She has a wonderful body too. Not that Kate Winslet isn't beautiful, she is, just Jennifer is gorgeous.

By the way, where is the masculine thing coming from? Jennifer to me has always seemed anything but masculine.

Both women are beautiful, but how can you mock someone's tastes? There is no wrong pick here. Me personally, I go with Kate...she is more real to me, and not afraid to eat...but trust me I would never toss Jennifer out of bed thats for sure!!

Good answer. Both women are beautiful.

But as long as it's a matter of taste, I'll say this:

Kate Winslet is the greatest ACTRESS working in films today. She has taken on the mantle formerly worn by Meryl Streep, Emma Thompson, Katherine Hepburn, and Lillian Gish. When Kate plays a scene, the actress disappears and you think you are looking at her character for real.

But on the topic of good looks: Jennifer Connelly is one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. She's about 5 years older than Kate Winslet, but her beauty surpasses age. She is a goddess.

Wow, I agree with just about every point you made.

Kate Winslet really is one of the best (most likely the very best) actresses working today. She's incredible. I like Jennifer Connelly and Naomi Watts just as much, but I couldn't bring myself to claim that one of them was more skilled than her.

Kate is also a beautiful woman with a great body. Jennifer, however, is simply gorgeous. Her face is lovely, that combination of dark hair and light eyes is irresistible to me, and her body (if not as unbelievably amazing as it was in the 90's) is incredible. Especially for a 39 year old mother of two. She's in my top 5 of most beautiful contemporary actress, with women who are mostly 10 or 15 years younger. She blows a lot of actresses who are almost half her age completely away.

And finally, yes, every single DVD released in the U.S. should have English subtitles included. I get so annoyed when there are subs for other languages, but not English! I don't have any hearing problems, but I always turn on subtitles during movies, just to clearly catch some things that may normally be missed, and so that I can see the dialgoue in movies where the sound mixing is off and the sound effects or score is too loud, and the voices are too quiet.
