Narraration in movies needs to be banned
Narration is horrendous, and wreaks of extremely poor film-making. God help any producer or director involved in movies that rely on this tactless crutch.

I agree. The narration is the one thing that kept me from really liking this film. Sure, it does work for certain films on an aesthetic level(Terrance Malick) or when one or more characters elaborate on a complex story from their perspectives (Scorsese), but this just had some guy monotonously rambling trite literary nonsense about things that had already been blatantly portrayed on screen. Five minutes in I had to stop the movie to make sure some audio commentary feature wasn't turned on because the voice was so redundant and out of place. The narration literally offered absolutely nothing positive to the characters in this picture and if anything it hindered my ability to connect with them. If I wanted every detail described in words, not character dialog and actions, I'd read the book.
you're not important,
being unique is a concept
You gotta be kidding.
Narration was one of the best things about this movie.

I loved it. It's a brilliant cinematic device. I notice most people who criticize it don't seem to understand that the voice over itself, and especially the choice of voice actors, is a joke. He's the detached, clinical voice of Frontline. His presence makes the whole thing like a documentary about these characters rather than a melodrama. The VO definitely cranks the satire up to full speed.
shareYeah you are a complete, hopeless and utter moron. Usually I express opinions are subjective, but when someone says "all narration is poor" or "all flashbacks don't work." Those people need to be banned from breeding.
Never Drumpf! Never Hillary!
Yeah, this movie could have certainly dialed it down at points. I don't always hate narration, but this movie does seem to state the obvious with it on occasion. Thankfully, there's not that much of it.
shareIn the case of this film it told us what the characters were aware of and what others weren't. For example the wife being pretty sure of an affair with the husband thinking he was getting away with it. Only the audience knew the full story. We'd have no real clue as to what the characters were thinking with out that omniscience.
