My audience might as well have been dead fish.

Seriously, my friend and I were the ONLY ones who laughed at ANY part of the movie, except the sex scene with the squeaky bed. It was completely ridiculous. I was laughing out loud every five minutes or so.

The best part was the people that left early. First, this wigger/frat kid with a giant baseball cap and bling. Then, this creepy dude with long hair and a porn mustache we had noticed earlier. Finally, this guy who looked like he just finished watching The Pick-Up Artist, with a toboggan on his head, goggles, a black Ed Hardy-esque shirt, and chains hanging everywhere. It was so perfect and hilarious.

The rest of the audience was either making out or staring boredly at the screen.

I'm wondering if any of the rest of you had a similar experience? It kind of pissed me off because I thought it was such a brilliant movie, but I'm guessing a lot of the people there didn't get the movie. I mean it was showing at 9:30 on a Monday night so...maybe not the cream of the crop that showed up [my friend and I just graduated college, so we have an excuse ;)]?

Problem for some is they thought it would be a cross between Superbad because of Cera and The Hangover because of Zack Galifanakis.

He's taking the knife out of the Cheese!
Do you think he wants some cheese?

I've just downloaded the film, and I noticed something pretty strange. I've only watched the first five minutes or so, but at the start of the film, we hear clearly that he's 'enjoying himself' shall we say. At this point you can hear a few stifled giggles from the audience. Then his first words are 'My name is Nick'. As soon as he says this the audience breaks into unbridled laughter. Have I missed something? Is this a new joke I haven't heard of yet? When I tell people what my name is, do they hide their amusement deep inside, then wait until I'm not there before breaking down thinking what a hilarious joke I unwittingly made? Please let me know.

Hey every audience is different. In the theater I was in, people were laughing hysterically at parts that I didn't find funny in the least. But then again, there wasn't much in this movie that I found funny

reply

I think we're watching the same one. I had to pause it to make sure the laughs weren't coming from my other computer window.

She was like a sunflower. Gods beautiful mistake.
This ones for you Artie!

I had a great audience

I lick the gun, when i'm done cause you know that revenge is sweet, so sweet

The guy was wearing a sled on his head? Yeah, I know it's culture thing(toboggan=hat), but it's still a bit jarring, at least he wasn't wearing a baklava ;)

(yeah its a joke)

I went to a 1:30 Tuesday afternoon viewing of the movie and I was one of 4 people there, and the only girl. The guy in front of me was laughing a lot (as was I) but for the other two... not a peep!

Oh, Adrian. Adrian always tells the truth.

That's odd. The audience in the theatre I was at was laughing hysterically every 5 minutes, as was I. Then again, I saw it opening night with a bunch of teens as angsty as myself, so whatever. =P

I personally think Cera is not very funny. this might be why his movies are *beep*

reply

My theater was almost completely dead too. Either the humor was too dry for them or they just weren't in the right mood. I thought it was completely hilarious. Cera played the dual persona so well.

reply

There was 20 or so people in the whole auditorium. I was laughing out loud throughout, and the people behind me laughed out loud occasionally (probably every 15-20 minutes).

I loved it, and the other people in the theater seemed to be enjoying it.

So I take it you didn't see the movie?

The audience I was in enjoyed the movie. Peopled laughed a lot and no one walked out.

-You look like Babe Ruth's gay brother, Gabe Ruth-

I just got back from seeing it (7:05, Saturday night) and there were maybe 6 other people aside from the three of us. We laughed more than they did, but they laughed some, too.

reply

I went to the 8pm show last night and there were maybe 10 people in my theater. Three of us laughed at some point in the movie but basically everyone was quiet.

I think this might be a love-it-or-hate-it movie. Boy, I sure hated it. I like Michael Cera and Arrested Development is one of my all-time favorite shows so I was hoping it'd be funny. I laughed out loud probably 3 or 4 times the entire movie. I just found the whole thing more bizarre than anything else.

reply

I loved it.

Yeah, I had a very similar experiance. Pretty much everything you just said. One of my favorite lines was, "Trent, I'm gonna have to ask that you and your adorable sweater get out of my way".
