How many guys cried during this movie?

I'm not one to cry easily, but I still cried even though I already knew it was coming! It's just so sad!!

It's a wonderful movie which I watched on Tv today for the third or fourth time and yep, I cried once again... most of the last 20 minutes or so, really, although the bit that really gets me bawling is that final scene where Jess unveils the new bridge to his sister.

i cry everytime i watch it eventhough i know its comming its just so dang sad

reply

The book always makes me cry. Just saw the movie for the first time, and yep sure enough I suddenly had something in my eye.

Experience is of no ethical value. It is merely the name men give to their mistakes

I cried a bit when I watched it even though I knew about "the tragic event" before watching it.

I'm only going to say this once: stay out of Camberwick Green - Sam Tyler

I saw it for the 3rd time today, and I cried. It's so sad.

I watched this for the first time yesterday. Although I had read what happens to Lesley I still found it emotional. Although I didn't think the final scene was good. I wanted to see Lesley.

reply

I was hoping they would show Leslie again in Terabithia too, (I had my hopes up when Jess was calling her name) but now, i'm glad they didn't, it makes it more real.

I think it's a bit ironic that Leslie told Jess "take a picture, lasts longer", and the last time you see Leslie, is in pictures. On the other hand, I think it's good storytelling as well that the last time you see her is in pictures, it was kind of a way to remind the audience what she looked like and that Leslie was still part of the movie after going roughly 10 minutes or so without seeing her.

I did, the 1st time I was balling, the 2nd time, i was still balling. Sign of a great film.

I'm a 37 year old guy, so no I don't cry. It just happens to rain on my face whenever I watch this movie.

reply

Well it least it doesn't happen to rain in your pants... then you might have a problem : D

I cried but not for Leslie. Jess is so confused and sad and guilt-ridden that by the time his father finds and comforts him Jess and I were both crying.

Everyone complains about Leslie dying and how unfair it is and how can this be a children's movie, bla bla bla, but guess what? Horrible things happen every day. Leslie's death is sad but quite believable. Children learn about death one way or another and it often is a hard lesson.

The movie is about Jess and the positive effect Leslie has on him, it's about a little boy who feels isolated from his family and the kids at school but learns to be himself, to enjoy his imagination, to pursue his artistic interests and, most of all, just one person like Leslie can make a huge difference. Jess will be a "Leslie" to others as he grows because she teaches him so much by her example. He and May Belle cross the BRIDGE to Terabithia so he can share with May Belle some of what he learned. May Belle or anyone can safely visit their magical land without the danger of drowning in the river (or with a much smaller chance...).

please don't make me use ignore...

the dog wasn't a big enough part of the movie for it to be that tragic... now movies like My Dog Skip, or Homeward Bound... if Skip or Shadow would have died, I don't think the world as we know it would be the same : D

LEslie definitely was a more interesting character than Jess... I mean she was a very unique. Anytime somebody really unique and special dies it's much more tragic than when your average Joe dies. Jess was sort of your average Joe trying to figure things out... so he just wasn't anywhere near as epic as Leslie.

Got to love the movie for doing that. I think in the book, the bridge was a couple of planks. No tree as a base.

reply

I almost did. It was a combination of having a wonderful daughter like Leslie taken away, and the realization of how guilty Jess must have felt about the whole thing. The second time I watched it was actually a lot harder to keep a stiff upper lip than the first time.

I have been avoiding this movie because it looked like a Narnia clone for the longest time...and i hate Narnia so it was logical not to see it.

That might have made me miss it for the longest time but i had no idea what the story was about let alone what actually happened during the last half an hour.

I really don't remember the last time tears were falling down my face and i couldn't stop them.If they were falling during the death scene it would have been understandable but i was crying all the way to the end.

I haven't been so surprised by a movie since probably The Usual Suspects.

I avoided it for a couple years and hate the Narnia series as well. I've tried to like it but just can't seem to. Stupid choice to have it advertised that way. I would guess this happened to a lot of people.

The Chronicles of Narnia does have a big fan base. Though, I think, Disney guessed it would get a lot of automatic audience transfer. Maybe... But also likely pushed a lot of people away who would have watched it, or at least sooner, knowing the true meaning and feel.
